I don't fuck care if you caught it or did not catch it. But if u are working in the health field, YOU CANNOT HAVE IT. Especially when u are work in a pediatric ward where kids do not have a fully developed immune system. Your mother had it, and exposed her family to it. How many fuckers are there in your family? 10? 20? A TB infected nurse exposes herself to hundreds of patients and co-workers a day. Just statistically speaking, her odds of infecting someone is much higher then your mother. These are sick people that cannot afford to contract anything. Which part don't u understand?

There is always a risk of catching infections in a hospital setting. This is just part and parcel of life. Many old people end up in a worse state in hospital because they caught an infection while being treated for something unrelated eg a broken hip.

Life is inherently risky. At some point I hope that you'll become a more rational being and will stop expecting everything to be perfect. However I doubt it very much considering you're also lacking in the IQ department.

TB is an incubative disease. It does not show up now if your immune system is strong. In later years, TB will surface when you become older. An infection does not mean you will start showing immediate symptoms. This is the reason why HIV people start getting TB which has been dormant in their systems.

The majority of individuals actually beat the TB infection. A handful end up in a draw and a very small number succumb.

HIV positive people have all sorts of infections to worry about simply because the human body is home to a myriad of viri, bacteria and parasites. In fact recent studies have shown that only 1 out of 10 cells within us is actually human. The rest are using the body as a host.

We co-exist with the invaders and in fact many are actually essential to life. However when the immune system is compromised, the eco system goes out of kilter with often fatal consequences.

My mother had TB when I was a teenager. I looked after her and never caught a thing. None of my other family members caught TB either.

The doctors assured us that the chance of us catching anything was minuscule and we should just go about our daily lives in the usual manner.

If TB was easily transmitted sufferers would be quarantined.

the Head of Dept in TTSH TB Control assured us that the dark patch in our father's lung wasn't TB............. but it turn out to be something else which the fucking doctor din bother to ask that it be further investigated since it showed up in his lung which is within his sphere of responsibilities! Our later died of lung cancer with source from that dark patch.
So still want to trust doctors?? Do so at your own peril!!

Common knowledge all hospitals in sinkie land have FT nurses and other medical personnel. Out of 10 nurses, chances are 9 will be from either PRC, Pinoy land or ah neh land who are most likely to bring TB with them to sinkie land.

so far so good................. but with coming shiploads of ah neh nurses the status quo will be shaken esp amongst them will be the exam cheaters, incompetent & the unhygienic CBs

Doctors don't possess some sort of supernatural powers. They're no different from the rest of us and they make mistakes just as we do.

I honestly don't trust anyone doctors and airline pilots included. However that does not mean I'm not going to get on a plane or go to a hospital when I'm sick or injured.

In life you make decisions based upon the best possible knowledge available at the time taking into consideration the fact that very often your options are limited anyway.

Perhaps you should encourage female members of your family to take up nursing in order to save the country from these sorts of half baked nurses.

Studies have shown that repeating BCG offers no benefit. The initial BCG vaccination at birth provides sufficient protection.

BCG is given routinely in Pinoyland. However those from remote provinces may miss out.

However the bottom line is that Singaporeans should have nothing to worry about as the probability is very low. The thread starter is trying to spread discord purely because of his political agenda against the ruling party.

Probability very low? Fuck you Sam Leong.

SINGAPORE - One of the children exposed to the nurse at the National University Hospital (NUH) who has tuberculosis (TB) has been found to have the bug.

The boy, who is four months old now, was in Ward 47 where the nurse worked, from Aug 23 to Sept 5.

The hospital is recalling 178 paediatric patients who had been cared for by the nurse before she discovered she had the disease.

The nurse was diagnosed with TB at the end of last month, and immediately informed the hospital, which swung into action to identify and screen patients who might have caught the bug from her.

The boy is one of more than 80 who have been screened so far, and the only one found to harbour the bacteria.

Associate Professor Daniel Goh, head of paediatrics at NUH, had said there is no urgency of getting all the children screened as the bug does not translate into full blown TB the moment someone gets it.

This is the case with the boy, who was found to have latent TB. This means he has the bacteria in his system, but does not have the disease.

Treatment for latent TB has a greater than 90 per cent chance of preventing the disease. Treatment is also very good for people with full blown TB.
The first of the 178 patients were at NUH (above) for screening on Tuesday. The children will have a chest X-ray to check for TB, and blood tests if aged five or older, and/or skin tests to see if they have the bug latent in them.

A spokesman for the hospital said treatment has started for the infant for his latent TB.

TB is transmitted through airborne droplets and usually requires significant contact with an infected person.

It is found in the community here and so far this year, 1,252 people have been diagnosed.

Symptoms of TB include persistent cough, fever, fatigue, chills, loss of appetite and weight loss.

However, people with latent TB do not have the disease and have no symptoms.

You obviously don't understand the meaning of "latent" you twit.

Don't change the subject jackass. U are the asshole that said nothing to worry about, very low probability. Now, one out of 80 has contracted it. If the Casino gave you those odds, you would take it all day long, moron.

Remember Singapore's first SARS case in 2003? Fucking health Minister at that time Lim Hng Kiang very publicly denounced and named the woman who brought SARS to singapore and infected people. How come up to till now, the TB Nurse who infected the pediatric ward has not been named? Guaranteed must be a FT nurse, probably Pinoy shit.

Singapore Woman Linked to 100 SARS Cases

By YEOH EN-LAI, Associated Press Writer

SINGAPORE (AP) -- Esther Mok went to Hong Kong to shop but came home carrying a deadly flu-like virus that has since spread to more than 100 people in Singapore and killed both of her parents and her pastor. Miraculously, she has survived.

Mok, a 26-year-old former flight attendant, was one of three original cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS, to emerge in Singapore early last month.

Mok was very sick - and very contagious - when admitted to a Singapore hospital on March 1, but doctors had no idea that she was suffering from the strange form of pneumonia that had already killed dozens in China.

She had regular visits from her family and members of her church - all oblivious to the fact that they were exposing themselves to SARS.

Her father, mother and pastor have since died of SARS. Her uncle is in intensive care battling the illness. Mok's grandmother and brother are also sick but in stable condition.

In fact, all but a handful of the 118 reported cases in Singapore have been traced to Mok, and health officials have dubbed her a SARS "super spreader."

Two other Singaporean women also traveled to Hong Kong in February and developed SARS after exposure to a Chinese doctor, Liu Jianjun, while staying at the Metropole Hotel. They have not infected others, the health ministry said.

"Esther Mok infected the whole lot of us," health minister Lim Hng Kiang said at a recent press conference.

No I wouldn't you twit. In fact this proves that the odds are so low as to not be of any concern whatsoever.

The fact that all sinkie kids are given BCG jabs further reduces the chances of anyone catching TB. The good the foreign nurses do for singapore society far outweighs any additional risk they add to the mix.
