Four floored for taking mattress and clothes bribes
JOHOR BARU: Two policemen and two Rela personnel have been arrested for accepting mattresses and clothing as bribes from a Pakistani trader. The policemen and Rela officers had stopped the car driven by the Pakistani in Kulai several days ago. Sources said the officers subsequently discovered that the trader was driving the car without a valid licence.
It is learnt that the Pakistani claimed he was just driving a short distance to deliver some goods to his customers. The officers later agreed to “settle” the case and took some mattresses, clothing and other items worth hundreds of ringgit from the Pakistani before letting him off. A team of officers from the Johor Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) subsequently arrested the four men and seized some of the items from them.
All four, in their 20s and 30s, are currently out on bail pending investigations. Johor MACC director Simi Abdul Ghani when contacted confirmed the arrest of the four men but declined to elaborate. Asked about the recent arrest of an officer from the agency by the police over an extortion case several days ago, Simi said that he would leave it to the police to investigate.
