LONDON: Britain launched a consultation Wednesday on allowing foreign police chiefs to run British forces, as part of the biggest shake-up of police recruitment for 30 years.

The British government is reportedly keen to recruit US "supercop" Bill Bratton, credited with slashing crime in New York and Los Angeles, to take charge of London's Metropolitan Police.

The 65-year-old was unable to apply for the top job when it became available in 2011 under current legislation, which bars foreigners from running British police forces on national security grounds.

The planned change in policy is part of a package of reforms unveiled by policing minister Damien Green to attract fresh talent to the top echelons of the British police.

"The issue of choosing our police leaders is of the highest importance to the future of the police," said Green.

A new fast-track scheme aimed at graduates, also up for consultation, will allow talented recruits to join the police at inspector level, skipping the two compulsory years on the beat for most officers.

A separate planned scheme would allow "exceptional" outsiders from the business world, as well as former members of the armed forces and security industry, to join at the higher rank of superintendent.

But the plans came under fire from Britain's Police Federation, which represents 124,000 rank-and-file officers.

"The Police Federation does not support proposals that would allow external candidates to join the police service at any rank above that of constable," the union's vice-chairman Steve White said of the fast-track schemes.

He added: "We have the best police service in the world so it seems strange that the government -- which often echoes this view -- may wish for forces to recruit chief constables from overseas."

Police forces in England and Wales are facing budget cuts of 20 percent by 2015 under the Conservative-led government's austerity programme, aimed at slashing Britain's huge deficit.

I suggest hiring PRC/Indian Police chiefs as they have been known to be very efficient at their jobs and add value to the jobs (i.e. growth of crime rates).

For a more competitive police chief who can speak fluent english (or so they fucking think so), we should employ pinoy police chiefs so they can add more pinoy operators for emergency calls: "goot af-tar-noon sir, dis is 999, wart is dee nat-chore of your emergency? please call bak la-tor if it is non orr-gent"

This Canadian did an excellent job as head of Canada's central bank during the financial crisis. After a global search, the Bank of England found the best man for the job.

But Sinkieland will never be like Hong Kong, where Ang Mor from First World countries are appointed to the High Court and Court of Final Appeal "to provide expertise". It would be like importing the Privy Council into Singapore. PAP abolished appeals to the Privy Council and appointed Malaysian CJ for political reasons, hence the "inside the polling station" is not breach of "within 200 metres of the polling station" ruling by that Malaysian Minion. Bro, what you say is not a joke. It is a fact for it happened in Singapore in the 50's.

During that period, the SS groups were becoming a menace and the British authorities, thru their British Commissioner of Police went on a recruitment drive and enlisted many serving SS members as detectives in the Colonial Singapore Police Force Secret Society Branch.

These blokes were great and full of intelligence and expertise in this field and thus brought into detention many SS bosses, fighters, White Fans and others. This caused the SS group to come on its knees.
