A new Ferrari was seen burning rubber on the 14th-century city wall in Nanjing, Xinhua, reported on Wednesday. China’s online community has
displayed its anger over a video of the Ferrari 458 Italia performing “drifts” on the ramparts of the Zhonghua Gate, or Gate of China, in
Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province. The clip shows the special-edition car, valued at 6 million yuan ($954,000), hoisted onto and driven around
the city gate on Sunday night in the run-up to a Ferrari show. The performance left clear tracks on the gate’s brick structure, and cleaners’ efforts
to remove them failed on Monday, according to witnesses and Xinhua reporters at the site.

Ferrari is marking its 20th anniversary
in China with this special model, only 20 of which will be sold in the country. The company says the car
has been dipped in a new color that it’s calling “Marco Polo red.”The Nanjing city wall was built during the early Ming dynasty. Only 25 kilometers, or
about 15 miles, of the original wall remain intact. Xinhua said the “unathorized action,” which was staged by the local Ferrari distributor, had not been
previously approved by the archaeological authorities.

Ferrari S.p.A Greater China's president Edwin Frenech apologized to Nanjing citizens for a commercial event at the Zhonghua Gate on Tuesday, according
to Yangtse Evening Post, citing an announcement by Nanjing Qinhuai District Tourism Bureau on Tuesday.

The Ferrari China's official said a staff from the Nanjing Kuaiyi Automobile Trading Co used the car improperly during the preparation for the display on top
of the Zhonghua Gate Castle. The management department of the Zhonghua Gate Castle removed Yang Houyi from his director post in consideration of
dereliction of duty, according to Yangtse Evening Post.

We can see here how important civilizations are for the Chinese. Ferrari have already apologize for the event that happened though. Not so much for that, Ferrari will be issuing a very small run of a special-edition 458 Italia just for the Chinese industry. The unique model is to commemorate Ferrari's 20 years of selling cars in China. The car maker also plans to commemorate the event by starting a more or less permanent display in Shanghai.
