The Football Association has confirmed that it was not informed of the Serbian police's decision to charge two England Under-21 players with violent behaviour.

The Serbian FA moved swiftly to suspend midfielder Nikola Ninkovic and striker Ognjen Mundrinski from all national teams, but the legal authorities have now announced charges for 12 people for their part in the brawl, including two unnamed England players.

Five Serbia players and both teams' assistants were also charged, and the FA confirmed that it is seeking government advice over the matter.

A statement read: "The FA can confirm it has not received any formal notification of any charges filed by the Serbian authorities.

"We have not been made aware of any of the names of individuals connected with these charges and we therefore await further details.

"We are in contact with the British Government for advice, as well as speaking with our colleagues at Uefa.

"The FA reiterates its position of full support for all players and staff caught up in the appalling scenes in Serbia two weeks ago."

Two England Under-21 players charged by Serbian police over pitch brawl

The fall-out from the controversial qualifier has continued, with the home team’s authorities charging 12 players and coaches from both sides as well as Serbian supporters

Two unnamed England Under-21 players are among 12 people charged by Serbian police following the pitch brawl during the Euro 2013 qualifier earlier this month.

Police in the Serbian town of Krusevac said those charged "committed an act of violence during a sports event".

As well as the two unnamed England U-21 players, five Serbia U-21 players and assistant coaches from both sides have been charged for their part in the match on October 16.

England went into the match 1-0 up from the first-leg and Connor Wickham’s late goal in the return tie sealed the Three Lions' passage to next summer's tournament.

The final whistle sparked clashes with players and officials from both sides and Danny Rose, currently on loan at Sunderland from Tottenham, was sent off.

The home side’s supporters have also been charged for their part in the incident, while Uefa has charged the countries' FA’s and confirmed it will take tough action against Serbia for any alleged racial abuse directed at England’s players.
