SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for stealing cash and handphones worth about S$20,000 from his employer's handphone shop.
The victim found his shop at Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 broken into on Sunday morning.
The locked roller shutter was forced open and the shop ransacked.
Police became suspicious following their investigations and managed to establish that the housebreaking was probably staged.
They narrowed down the suspect to an employee and he was called up for an interview.
Investigations found that he had used his assigned key late on Saturday night to open the roller shutter to steal from the shop.
He then intentionally damaged the roller shutter to throw the suspicion away from him.
Police recovered more than 140 stolen handphones worth about S$19,000.
The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday.
If convicted, he can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
