Drunk driver tries to bribe police

By Lyn Chan

A 35-YEAR-OLD woman arrested for drink driving has been slapped with an additional charge of attempted bribery. The incident took place on Saturday when SSgt Jeff Lim Kok Hwee and SC/Cpl Mohamed Fauzi Bin Mohd Moner, patrolling in Yishun, came across an accident where a car had collided into several parked vehicles at an open car park.

The unsteady gait of the female driver alerted the police, who noted she smelt of alcohol. A breathalyser test was then administered. She failed it and was placed under arrest for drink driving. While waiting to be escorted back to the police station, the driver pleaded with SSgt Jeff to help her and asked what he wanted in return. She was warned against making such a request.

She then turned to Insp Teo Woon Hoon and Cpl Asrul Bin Moktar, who were assisting in the escort, and offered a sum of $12,000 in exchange for not conducting further breathalyser tests on her. A subsequent Breath Evidential Analyser test showed that the female driver's breath contained 70mcg of alcohol per 100ml, which significantly exceeded the legally prescribed limit of 35mcg per 100ml of breath.

SINGAPORE : A 35-year-old woman who was arrested for drink driving found herself faced with another charge of attempted bribery.

She had tried to bribe four police officers with S$12,000 in return for not conducting further breathalyser tests on her.

The car she was driving had hit several parked vehicles at an open car park early Saturday morning.

A breathalyser test was carried out on her and she was arrested after she failed the test.

While waiting to be escorted back to the police station, the woman pleaded with the two officers to help her and asked what they wanted in return.

She was warned against making such a request as it was an offence to offer a bribe to a public servant.

She then turned to two other officers who were part of the escort team and offered a sum of S$12,000 in exchange for not conducting further breathalyser tests on her. The offer was rejected.

A subsequent test showed that her breath contained 70 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres, double the legally prescribed limit.

The police are investigating the driver for drink driving, while the offence of attempted bribery has been referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau.
