Drugs seized from car’s hidden compartment
SINGAPORE: Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers uncovered a cache of restricted drugs hidden in a car passing through Woodlands Checkpoint on Saturday.
At about 6.30pm, the Singapore-registered car pulled into the checkpoint for a routine check.
During the inspection, the officers found a modified compartment between the boot and backseat of the car, and slabs of tablets hidden in it.
In a statement on Tuesday, ICA said the cache comprised 4,500 strips of 20 tablets of Nitrazepam and four strips of 10 tablets of Midazolam.
The drugs and the 38-year-old Singaporean man who was driving the car were referred to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for further investigations.
The two drugs, which are associated with producing sleep or drowsiness, are listed in the Poisons Act.
HSA reminded the public that it is an offence to import or sell substances listed in the Poisons Act without the necessary licences.
It warned that anyone found guilty of the offence can be fined up to S$10,000 and jailed up to two years. - CNA/nd
