'Doctor' faces 14 counts of sexual offences

SINGAPORE - Koh Nai Hock, who is also known as Dr Bob Koh, was yesterday charged with 14 counts of sexual offences on a patient.
The 62-year-old, who does not have any medical degree, has also been accused of advertising online his alternative treatment methods, which he claims can cure cancer.
His lawyer Colin Phan yesterday said that Koh wants to claim trial over the sexual accusations, while discussing the advertising offence with the Ministry of Health.
Online searches seem to show that Koh had offered his services in Singapore and Malaysia.
Between Nov 1 and Christmas Day of 2010, he allegedly treated a woman in her late 30s, who was said to have difficulty in conceiving.
While treating her in rooms at the Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel in Marine Parade and the Ibis Hotel in Bencoolen Street, he allegedly committed the sexual offences.
If convicted, he could be jailed for up to 20 years and fined on each of the 14 counts.
Between May and July 2008, he also posted three advertisements on the Internet. These were titled: Alternative Treatment Stopped Cancer Cells from Growing Under 2 Weeks; An Open Letter to Doctors from Dr Bob Koh; and Doctor Bob Koh Updates on his 3 Recent Successes.
If convicted of contravening the advertising regulations in the Medicines Act, he could be fined up to $1,000 and jailed for up to a year. Koh, who is out on bail of $20,000, will return to court for a pre-trial conference on March 10.
