Disabled man faces graft

A FORMER employee of a charity was charged on Friday with 18 counts of accepting bribes amounting to a total of $17,500. Wheelchair-bound Lau Yeow Hui alias Eric, 32, was a welfare programme coordinator of the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) when he allegedly accepted bribes 18 times from Mr Ng Chew Chuah in return for helping him get a contract to provide transportation services for the SPD. Mr Ng is the owner of Ming Chuan Transportation and Coach Service. The alleged offences took place between October 2005 and March 2007. Lau, represented by Mr Raymond Ng, is out on police bail of $5,000. His case is fixed for a pre-trial conference on April 22. If found guilty, he can be fined up to $100,000 and/or jailed for up to five years on each charge.
