Singapore became Asian Tiger in almost two decades because of its autocratic mechanism of government but it is suitable for growth stage and now Singapore is developed n mature economy where autocracy has very little to do, its present govt structure which is not allowing it to expand further.

The pap has lost its way and run out of ideas. Relying on casinos and cheap labour to try to keep SG afloat shows the capability of the present pap

can't help getting this feeling of Singapore crumbling when 60% of voters still wanted an incompetent government to return to power
with most Singaporeans so afraid of changes, eventually when their mind shift, the damage may be hard to reverse by then
we have only ourselves to blame
we voted in the government we deserve!

the 60% were deprived of relevant information...they voted the pap because they were fed shit by the SG media...so dont blame them solely..we got to know the root cause of SG's present predicament.

The root cause is not the 60%..let's educate and help them see the light

it's because they all wanted STABILITY. Hence, they are afraid of change, and that's why PAP being returned to power everytime on this ground, cause wanting stability is not wrong after all.the reason is right by itself, but obsessing with it is wrong.

they were indoctrinated by the pap and the SG media that the Opposition political leaders are destructive. We need to show them that that's a lie. The Opposition leaders are true blue and loyal Singaporeans. So we shd have no qualms voting them in to serve SG and Singaporeans

Re: Corruption And Avarice, The Key To PAP Continuity

When they had run out of ideas, that's what they want. The situation has already become a cash cow. They begin to milk money out of Singaporeans. It's the new found wealth ! When corruptions are not stopped, COE, ERP, HDB, SBS, and everything else will follow to make profits for the minority (loot dividing). It's a big biz. There's no unions to stop them.

- 'How PAP uses taxpayer-funded grassroots for political gain': "The People’s Association (PA), ..Like all other stat boards, it receives a yearly grant from the government to run its programmes and cover operational costs. .. It spent a total of $320 million last year. However unlike most stat boards, whose chairmen are usually the permanent secretary of the parent ministry or some other senior civil servant, PA’s chairman is none other than the Prime Minister [pict]. .. No other public sector board in Singapore has so many “Men in White” on it..." [G Giam, 10Oct2009].

SG is in a sorry state of affairs

TracyTan is indeed visionary to start this thread. With the MRT not functioning every day, the people has lost total confidence in the public transport system. People now no longer knows if they can go about their various activities on schedule, if they can get to work on time or for that all important business meetings or that crucial exam paper or medical appointments. The people has also lost total faith in the government for the way it handles the MRT affairs and more importantly in the manner in which the MRT was being maintained. The PAP had over the years been boasting what a good govt it is in enabling everything in S'pore to run efficiently. Well, that has been shattered totally. The MRT episodes have shown up how much they have been deceiving S'poreans and how deluded LKY and PAP are in thinking that S'pore is now a first world country. Singapore is indeed crumbling and it will only gather pace from now on.Tracy Tan is prophetic.

The way the pap is running SG, will Singaporeans face the following?

1. Liquidation of SG strategic assets such as Changi Airport, PSA, etc? TH has already sold off SENOKO power generation plants and many others to beef up its coffer

2. Badly run MRT system that cause frequent and longer disruptions? Is a serious MRT accident imminent because of lack of foresight and maintenance and planning?

3. Expensive and 3rd world health system because doctors, nurses, staff are from 3rd world institutions and countries?

4. Increased crime rates

5. SG - not safe country

6. Social chaos as younger gals prostituting themselves become prevalent?

7. Social problems as younger Singaporeans migrate and the pap liberally imports 3rd world migrants

8. Very high cost of living

9. A high percentage of poor singaporeans stuck in the poverty trap

10. Most Singaporeans work long hours, neglecting their families and children

11 Widening Singaporean/Foreigner divide

I don't get it. Since Sumiko is so anti-PAP, why is she working for what is essentially the Pravda of Singapore?

A country's govt, for good or otherwise, plays a very important role in shaping the values and destiny of a country.

The PAP, in recent years, have chosen to worship money, materialism and promote economic growth at all costs. This has rubbed off on many Singaporeans and will influence their values and behaviours. This will accelerate the crumbling of Singapore

And in so doing, it has become a country with an ethos of "every man for himself".

Fight Or Die

True..that's sad, isnt it?

when the citizens (and govt) dont look after and care for each other, that's the beginning of the end of a country

No, there's a long lead time till another revolution that will occur. A revolution is must for a drastic change and not a cosmetic one just to fool the folks for the time being.

There was a man who cant handle success and lost his values and compassion. The man was poor but after working hard achieved some success. Later in his life, he found money came easy through dubious means and scheming without him having to work hard anymore. He enjoyed the new found wealth and was blinded that he achieved them through questionable means. He neglected his wife and children and becoming drunk with vices, making ill gained money and devising questionable schemes to make more money. He didnt have to work hard anymore as he resorted to running gambling dens, prostitution, using slavery methods to get workers to run his business. Those prostitutes he endears, he invited them to be his mistresses. He was drunk with lust and lost his sense of love and compassion. Soon, he lost his love for his wife and children and totally neglected them and treated them badly and focused his life on money, prostitution, gambling and other vices. His wife and children were sad but, as they were rejected and not cared for, had to leave home to work hard for a living. After 20years, the man was old and had bad health and lost his wealth in gambling and extravagant living and squandering. He was broke and his mistresses left him. His prized workers were offered better terms and left to work for other bosses. The man was lost and became a vagrant.

The story is like the pap. the pap worked hard for 40years and achieved some success. But the new pap leaders cant handle success. The new pap found that it could make easy money by squeezing its citizens through all kinds of levies, hidden taxes, COEs, ERPs, ARFs, petrol taxes..money came easy and was good..the pap got itself used to easy money..to make more money, it resorted to casinos, gambling, exploiting cheap foreign workers and got addicted to paying workers slave rates. More money was made and the pap thought that it hit on an instant success formula (the pap wonders why other countries are so stupid not to know this formula!) . Because of such ill gotten wealth, the pap lost its love, compassion for its citizens and began to treat them badly...calling them daft, stupid, slow, expensive, lesser mortals, and comparing them to 3rd world workers. The citizens were heart broken and tried to reason with the pap. but the pap said that it is deaf to criticisms..the pap also invited 3rd world migrants to replace its citizens causing much heart ache to the citizens.

Will the pap end up like the man in the story in 20years time?

Will the pap end up like the man in the story in 20years time?

poor analogy, Ms Tan.
first and foremost, the relationship between PAP and the populace is more of a master and servant relationship.
the peoples are the true masters and capable of changing the servants anytime they wished to. so the story is more likely than not to be like this:
(an adaptation of an online version produced previously)
a master and his family lived happily in the past
they had a servant and his child to help with simple tasks
the servant work diligently and earn the respect due
time went by pride went up just like the morning hue
for the servant had done his job so well
its apparent that his ego began to swell
in time to come both master and servant grew old
the servant's child took over his father, that me was told
by his father's success, the young servant asked for pay rise
the family thought the young servant's work was worth the price
as days gone by the problems began to show
more work to be done, the family had to grow
looking at the old master laying fragile and frail
and the old servant, too, could soon kick the pail
the young servant started inviting guests
and of what purpose is anyone's guess
so clear to all that the family are growing in disgust
by the boorish behavior no one would want discuss
very soon the family would realise one day
that they actually could have the final say
:p:p:p
