The body of a man has been found within the compound of Saint Mary of the Angels, a Catholic church in Bukit Batok East Avenue 2.
The victim, who was a Chinese man in his 40s, was discovered on a grassy patch by an Indian landscape worker on Wednesday morning, who then informed one of the priests of the parish.
A call was made to the police at approximately 10am.
The 69-year-old landscape worker, who declined to be named, told Channel NewsAsia that there were blood stains on the victim’s white shirt around the chest area, and his arms were at his sides. There were also bruises on his face.
It is not yet known if foul play was involved.
A parishioner told Yahoo! Singapore that the church is locked every night at 10pm and opened at 6am daily.
There was also morning mass from 6.20am to 7am, which was attended by around 20 people.
However, the dead man was not identified as a member of the congregation.
When contacted, a spokesperson from the parish declined to comment as investigations are still going on.
The police have cordoned off the void decks of the block of flats next to the church.
