Cops not fooled by ‘packaging’

KUALA LUMPUR: Police were not fooled when a man claimed he was only carrying food as they found more than 500gm of ketamine hidden in a polystrene packaging. In the incident on Thursday at 4.30pm, the suspect was nabbed near an apartment lift. He was carrying the food packaging and a packet drink.

“He claimed he was carrying food he had bought from the shop. My officers didn’t buy his story and found a plastic bag containing ketamine powder weighing 512gm inside,” said Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin.

Police had on the same day arrested several men and crippled a drug syndicate operating in the Klang Valley. They had first raided an apartment unit in Pandan Jaya at 2.30pm and arrested four men. They also seized 192g of ketamine, ecstasy and Eramine 5 drugs.

Later in the night, police arrested two more men – a taxi driver and a tow truck driver – believed to be the drug suppliers at 8.30pm near the apartment car park. Police found about 1kg of ketamine in their possession. Police also seized a Toyata Caldina, Proton Waja and a taxi belonging to the suspects.

ACP Amiruddin said police seized drugs with a street value of RM50,000 and RM3,000 in cash. Investigations revealed that six of the suspects tested positive for drugs, and the syndicate had been active for the past three month. All suspects have been remanded until Feb 3.
