SINGAPORE - Eight more neighbourhoods will have police officers in polo tees patrolling on bicycles as part of the Community Policing System (Cops), which started in May 2012.
Under the programme, more boots will be on the ground too, as the police increase the number of officers involved in community partnership projects.
There will also be more cameras installed at public areas of Housing Board flats and carparks. So far, more than 200 cases have been solved with these cameras and video footage has provided leads for another 450 cases.
At the roll-out of the programme at Bukit Batok on Sunday, Madam Halimah Yacob, who is a Member of Parliament for Jurong GRC, emphasised the importance of these security add-ons.
"These police cameras provide critical investigative leads where there would have been none previously," she said.
Such security measures are already a fixture in 20 neighbourhoods. By June 2015, all 35 neighbourhood police centres would have implemented the Community Policing System.
