I am very curious and would like to know what would u do if u can call the shot?

if u accept them, think of following issues...

* take them in and let them stay here for how long?
* where to house them? what if they escape and become illegal immigrants?
* when can send them back or send them back to where?
* if need medical operation, who pays for it?
* who if they refuse to leave after settling down? can we throw them out?
* how to answer to singaporean as it involves taxpayers' money
* if we help this time, what if there is a second batch coming?

our gov got a no refugee policy. used to have a camp for Vietnamese, also no more and all repatriated. 90's when Suharto collapsed and Indonesia was very chaotic, also not allow to take Indonesian in if they come in boats and declare themselves as refugee. even they jump into waters also not allow to pick them up. St john island was modified into a holding centre with watch towers. if u go St John island now u can see high fencing and watch towers everywhere, it were from the 90's and still there.

No refugee policy but got open door FTs policy........

I am open to how we should handle such cases.

Without any document/information on the passengers, it is really difficult to make a call on the spot whether to allow entry to them or not. And the fact they are on a Vietnamese-registered makes it even more risky, fishy.

Anyway from reliable sources, SOP or in practice, our Navy/Coastal Patrol will tow such boat to the open sea, give them food and water and wave them goodbye. So I think it is not as inhumane as reported lah.

If the Coastal Patrol let them into Singapore, then what? Who to contact? Where to house the people?

Prove your point by calling the relevant department immediately to send the boat people to your house.

Just a gentle reminder, these are only one boat of 40 people. If there is a second boat, a third. Then what?

Please read properly. SG turned away the ship that rescued the 40 survivors, they were not in danger of drowning. Malaysian authorities then took in the survivors from that ship.

I'm not surprise by her at all she love to paint a different picture
