Donnie Yen’s next project The Monkey King is going to be a star-studded film. Filmko Pictures, the studio producing the 3D fantasy epic, announced the latest cast lineup recently and it included Chow Yun-fat, Aaron Kwok, Peter Ho and Taiwanese darling Joe Chen. The RMB4-billion picture sees Yen, 47, playing the title role, while Chow, 55, will be the Jade Emperor who rules over the gods, the humans and the demons.

Kwok, 44, will portray what the Chinese media called “the best-looking Buffalo Demon King ever”, who goes head to head with the Palace of Heaven for his wife Princess Iron Fan (to be portrayed by Chen, 31). The hunky Ho is set to play Erlang Shen, a god with a third eye. Yen’s sister-in-law Irene Wang will also play a fairy in the film.

These are not the only A-listers joining the cast, as the studio added that they would announce more names later. Filmko Pictures has also roped in a special effects and make-up team from Hollywood. Edmond Wong, the son of Raymond Wong and the screenwriter for the two Ip Man films, will pen the script.
