SINGAPORE: There's been an explosion at a chemical company at 24 Gul Lane.

Witnesses reported a fire and thick smoke.

They said the incident occurred at about 11 this morning

Mr Justin Loh, who works two streets away from 24 Gul Lane, said his colleague witnessed thick, black smoke near their office.

Mr Loh added they vacated the office shortly after.

Another caller to the MediaCorp hotline, who works several factories down the road, said the glass windows in her building shook from the impact of the explosion, startling her colleagues.

"It's quite a strong explosion. So they went down to see and saw thick smoke. The fire engine and even the army (arrived)," she said.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force has yet to establish what caused the explosion.
