The Secondary 4 student thought she would be spending her Deepavali holiday studying at home for her O-level exams.

Instead, Geetha Meyyappan can get a short break for Deepavali after a revision to the exam schedule, following a change to the date of the Hindu festival.

The 16-year-old was supposed to sit for her Combined Humanities and Biology exams two days before Deepavali, which was initially set on Nov 3, a Sunday. Her Higher Tamil paper is set for Nov 6.

When the Indian almanac became available, Deepavali was changed to a day earlier, Nov 2.

Geetha welcomed the change in dates because it means that she will have a longer break between some papers.

Read the full report in The New Paper on Tuesday (May 28).

Why Deepavali special treatment where others religious function all the date fixed .

Because the PAP govt panders to the Hindu community's whims in the name of 'religious harmony', allowing them to check their oh-so-special almanac to update the date of Deepavali. :oIo:
