The National Heart Center (NHC) has ‘concluded’ its investigations against its staff Ms Rachelle Ann Beguia who is currently working as a clerk in its Medical Records Office.

Ms Beguia earned the wrath of Singaporeans with a series of unwarranted attacks on Singaporean NSmen for lacking ‘morals, loyalty and patriotism’. She also poured scorn on Singaporeans who lost their jobs to foreigners as being ‘incompetent’ on PAP MP Penny Low’s Facebook.

The saga took a sudden turn yesterday when Ms Rachelle’s husband Gay Chao Hui came forth and take responsibility for the posting. He claimed that he used his wife’s Facebook account to post the comments without her knowledge and apologize to all Singaporeans for the ‘distress’ caused.

In a short statement posted on NHC’s Facebook today, it said:

“Our investigations into Ms Rachelle Ann Beguia’s case have concluded. Ms Beguia revealed that her Facebook account was shared with her husband, Mr Gay Chao Hui. Mr Gay has confessed that he was the one who posted those comments. He has since posted his apology on Ms Penny Low’s Facebook account. Although Ms Rachelle had explained that she did not post those comments, she is still accountable to NHCS. Appropriate disciplinary action has been taken against her.”

There’s more than meets the eye in NHC’s statement as it was issued less than 24 hours after Gay Chao Hui posted his ‘apology’ on Penny Low’s Facebook and somemore on a Sunday. Did NHC contact Ms Rachelle Ann Beguia beforehand to discuss the saga and reach a ’settlement’ with her to put up a ‘wayang’ to close the case? It does appear the entire fracas was staged and orchestrated to deflect public fury in order to save the job of Ms Rachelle.

As expected, NHC’s statement was greeted with disapproval by most netizens who still believe Ms Rachelle was responsible for posting the comments and her husband is only taking the rap for her.

Within one hour, nearly 100 comments were posted on the wall of NHC’s Facebook protesting against the ‘outcome’.

Patrick Tan wrote:

“Do NHC really believe a lie from a small kid? its so obvious its her own doing from their way of commenting. do u believe a Singapore guy who had done ns will mocked his fellow singaporeans about national service? sad to say i really doubt NHC have put in any effort at all..”

Caroline Tan added:

“OH C’MON… N U EXPECT US TO BELIEVE TIS CRAP?? HE’S JUST TRYING TO TAKE THE FALL FOR HIS WIFE N DESPERATELY DOING WHATEVER HE CAN TO SAVE HER. WE R NO KIDS.. CAN CAN SEE THROUGH TIS PLOY! MAKE A POLICE REPORT ON THEM BOTH. GIVE HER THE SACK N SEND HER BACK TO PINOYLAND!”

Edwin Ng felt NHC should continue its investigations.

“For any investigation, since there are new revelations or findings, the investigation should continue. But seems like out of convenience, NHC wrap up the investigation. Appreciate if you don’t take things on face value and do a thorough investigation to the comments made. The grammatics and style of writing differs greatly. Even a layman can see the difference, can always check with an english expert.”

Wesley Tay Jia Yi is bitterly disappointed with the outcome:

“Once again, we are treated like idiots in another “Denise He” case. What is the appropriate punishment? What this does is set a precedence for other people with same intentions to do the same. If it is true she is not responsible for her own FB account, what more responsibility can you expect her to perform as a clerk. Totally disappointed with the outcome.”

In the meantime, more than ten Singaporeans will continue to gather in silent protest outside National Heart Center tomorrow afternoon from 12pm to 2pm to demand the immediate sacking of Ms Rachelle Ann Beguia.

Are you satisfied with the ‘disciplinary action’ taken by NHC? Please feel free to share your views here.
