It was an ordinary scene where six young adults walk into a seafood restaurant, order a variety of dishes, and leave, except they left without footing the bill. Their brazen act was caught on CCTV, and a police report was subsequently lodged by the owner, Mr Francis Ng.

According to Chinese evening paper Lianhe Wanbao, the incident happened on July 20 at the Yio Chu Kang Road branch of House of Seafood. Mr Ng, 41, revealed the footage to the Chinese daily reporters, where it showed six young men entering the restaurant at around 8.20pm.

They chose seats near the exit, and proceeded to order black pepper and chilli crabs, bamboo clams, coffee pork ribs and other dishes amounting to $272.

After feasting for about 1 1/2 hours, the dishes were cleared, and five of the youths left, leaving one young man behind, who continued to sip his tea.

When he noticed that the restaurant staff were busy, he proceeded to make his escape - not before hesitating at the exit. None of the restaurant staff stopped him, so he slipped away with the rest of his friends, who were waiting for him outside.

According to Mr Ng, the restaurant was not crowded at the time of the incident, with about five to six occupied tables. He was surprised by the audacity of these people, adding that they were unfamiliar faces.

The employee who first discovered that they did not call for the bill, immediately ran out of the restaurant, but the group had escaped by then.

Mr Ng has already informed his staff to be extra vigilant, to prevent a recurrence.
