A taxi driver was fined $7,000 and banned from driving for three years on Wednesday for causing the death of a motorcyclist last August.

Lee Joon Sim, 63, admitted to causing the death of security guard Abdul Razak Tambi, 65, along Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) on Aug 3.

He was driving with an unknown passenger along BKE that evening when he encroached into the path of the rider when changing lane from the second left to the second right of the four-lane expressway.

The court heard that Mr Abdul Razak was unable to stop in time and hit the rear right bumper of the taxi. He fell and was taken to hospital but died the next day of multiple injuries. Lee could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for causing death by negligence.
