The authorities will spend about $4.5 billion on the upgrading of Singapore's rail assets,

and is expected to subsidise public bus services to the tune of $5 billion.

So about the same cost as building the three MRT stations of Circle Line Stage 6.

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/final-stage-of-circle-line-to-cost-485b

Final stage of Circle Line to cost $4.85b

The final stage 6 of the Circle Line will cost $1.2 billion per kilometre to build, or five times the average per-km cost of the first five stages.

This means the cost of the 4km stretch, which adds three stations to link Marina Bay to HarbourFront, is expected to be $4.85 billion - more than half what the first five stages cost and exceeds the $3.7 billion projected in 2015.

The same old game the PAP plays ...show MRT is losing money, then justify a price increase.

Sinkees should be asking ….how could SMRT be losing money? Let SMRT justify its operational expense. Are they overpaying the executives? Are they overpaying for the materials. They are definitely not overpaying the rank and file.

I think when the price adjustment is out, the PTC will say operators want 7% but PTC bagus give them only 6.9% n have helped cushion the price rise to commuters.

And guess wat? It's worked for decades n will work for decades more. Or scenario 2. Raise it by 7 %...than when erection time next year...say no raise bcos profitable...than after erection raise 10% to make up for the shortfall of not raising it due to erection period

LONDON: Oil prices fell by 2per cent on Tuesday, weighed down by rising OPEC and Russian oil output as well as the protracted U.S.-China trade dispute that has dragged on the global economy.
U.S. crude was down US$1.26, or 2.3per cent, at US$53.84 a barrel by 1152 GMT and Brent crude was down 96 cents at US$57.70.

The United States this week imposed 15per cent tariffs on a variety of Chinese goods and China began to impose new duties on a US$75 billion target list in a trade war that has rumbled on for more than a year.

Though the trade conflict has intensified, U.S. President Donald Trump said both sides would meet for talks this month.
Meanwhile, South Korea's economy turned out to have expanded less than expected in the second quarter, with exports revised down in the face of the prolonged U.S.-China dispute, central bank data showed on Tuesday.
A move on Sunday by Argentina to impose capital controls also cast a spotlight on emerging market risks.

"Oil will struggle to make substantial headway topside this week with no progress on trade talks or meetings even, soft data from Asia and a possible cracking of OPEC's resolve to control production," said Jeffrey Halley, senior market analyst at OANDA.
Output from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) rose in August for the first month this year as higher supply from Iraq and Nigeria outweighed restraint by Saudi Arabia and losses caused by U.S. sanctions on Iran.
Russian oil production in August rose to 11.294 million barrels per day (bpd), topping the rate cap pledged by Moscow in a pact with other producers and hitting its highest since March, data showed on Monday.

Data due this week on U.S. inventory levels will be delayed by a day to Wednesday and Thursday because of the U.S. Labor Day holiday on Monday.
"What's bad for the outlook for global growth is bad for oil at the moment and only big draws in inventories can delay that drift lower," said Greg McKenna, strategist at McKenna Macro.

The excuse this time is Ah Khaw upgrading the sleepers on MRT tracks and building very expensive MRT lines now (Thomson-East Coast Line, Circle Line Stage 6).

They need to recoup that money.
