A SELF-EMPLOYED man was sentenced to 11 months' jail on Friday after he was found guilty of four charges of molesting his maid. Dennis Tan Wei Teck, 36, is appealing against conviction and sentence. Bail of $15,000 was offered, pending the appeal. The father of two was convicted after a six-day trial by District Judge Hamidah of molesting the then 25-year-old Indonesian domestic helper at his flat in Jurong West on four occasions between Dec 11, 2007 and June 18 last year. The maid had been working for him for about four months before the first incident in end-December. She eventually ran away from the household to the Indonesian Embassy, which later reported to the police. Tan could have been jailed for up to three years or fined or caned or received any two punishments on each charge.
