Raynall, the launch will just be a simple affair. I am not a big name writer so don't expect live bands, theatre, skits and professional DJs.
Originally, I thought it would be a good idea to have it in a pub and everyone can just drink and chill out. But then some of my fans on Facebook said they might want to come and they are secondary school students. So no alcohol will be served.
I will be there to talk about my book, answer questions, sign copies and of course, on the day of the launch, I will be giving a big discount for the books. Each copy will cost you only 12 dollars. Current retail price is $13.91. And if you purchase 3 or more copies, then it is just 10 dollars per copy.

He said you pretty much have to be someone important and a New Yorker to have the sort of clout to throw a publication party.
So yeah, if a writer with 5 New York Times bestsellers under his belt thought that he didn't have the clout to throw a publication party, it is probably a good idea not to have one yourself. If this is your first book, you are probably not important enough. So unless you are a New Yorker, the simple affair you are planning for your launch is good enough.

Yes, you are right. I am not important as a writer. Yet. Which is why I will only be doing a short obligatory speech and answer questions and sign copies of the book. I am not really anticipating a crowd so chances are good that I won't even be doing a formal speech. Maybe just arrange the chairs in a semi-circle and have a talk-cock-sing-song session with the few who show up.
