THE death of a Malaysian motorcyclist who was run over by a trailer along Seletar Expressway earlier this year was due to the negligence of a probationary driver. State Coroner Victor Yeo made his findings on Wednesday when he said the death of Mr Sia Chong Shyang, 27, was due to the negligence of Mr Frank Hoewelkroeger. The 33-year-old marketing manager's vehicle had hit Mr Sia's motorcycle when he was filtering out from the right to the centre of the three-lane expressway at about 8am that day. Upon impact, Mr Sia, a construction worker, was thrown off from his motorcycle and flew across to the left, landing on the left lane of the highway. The incident also resulted in a chain collision among five other vehicles on the right of the expressway. Mr Sia died of multiple injuries after he was run over by a then unknown red motor trailer driven by Mr Heng Hai Cheng, 60, who did not stop but continued driving away from the accident scene. Both Mr Hoewelkroeger and Mr Heng were named potential defendants at the inquiry into Mr Sia's death last month.
