The police have warned the public to be wary of online rental scams, after they arrested a 28-year-old man who allegedly cheated potential tenants of close to $10,000.
He collected rental deposits for a place near Hougang Avenue 8 but then disappeared.
He is believed to be involved in at least five cases and can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined for each offence.
Overall, the police have received at least 16 rental scam reports, involving more than $16,000 in total, between July and December last year.
