POLLSTERS will contact 33,000 households across Singapore from May 18 to July 31 to gather data for a comprehensive labour force survey.
The survey, being carried out by the Manpower Research and Statistics Department of the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), will collect data on employment, unemployment and other economic characteristics of the population to help in the planning and formulation of manpower-related policies and programmes.
As the selected households are a sub-sample of the Census of Population 2010, additional socio-demographic information such as language literacy, religion, and mode of transport will be collected as well, said MOM in a statement on Tuesday.
All information will be kept strictly confidential.
Households selected for the survey will be notified by post. Those with internet access may also participate in the survey via the Manpower Survey Online System (MSOL).
Those who prefer not to participate via MSOL can give their contact details to MOM for telephone interviews through the Survey Hotline at 1800-228-6688 from 9am to 9pm daily.
Face-to-face interviews may also be conducted should households be unreachable by telephone - in which case the interviewers will carry MOM-issued identification cards. Households can verify their identity by calling the MOM Contact Centre at 6438 5122.

Yap, Gan Kim Yong another brainless wayang pig. He loves reading scripts and showing hand gesture at the same time. NO brain needed for million dollars pay package. Election coming, more empty talk and concern. You know why? my friend who has been jobless for 2 years applied to MOM for job only to be rejected without reason. So Gan Kim Yong wanted to find reason why people are jobless is like a slap on his own bloated face.

I can tell u that this survey is already flawed before it is started. Gan is an idiot minister not to know this. The sample size of 33,000 should be taken from the Electoral Rolls and not the Population Census. SInce u have to be a citizen to vote, and a working age adult to vote, this is the right sample population to use. The way its is set up now, As 1/3 of the population is FTs and non native born, than by extrapolation, 1/3 of the 33,000 sample size is also going to be FTs, or people on work permit. How can this truly represent what is happening to local born Sinkies? U can knock on flats occupied by FT labourers, work permit holders, etc. Ofcourse they will tell you their employment is wonderfull and they are maxing out their employment opportunities. Compared to where they come from, its great here. Knock on the door of a real sinkie, and the story is vastly different. I can believe cockups paid million dollar salaries can fuck up something so basic.
