SOMETHING Lim Peng Chuan did when he was about to enter the Resorts World casino at 11.35pm on the crowded Saturday night of May 29, after scanning an identity card gave him away. It made security officer Chan Kah Hoe suspicious and the 31-year-old asked to see the identity card. It featured a picture of a woman and Lim immediately pleaded to be let off.
Police were called in and it was discovered that the identity card belongs to Lim's wife Soh Poh Suan. On Monday in a district court, Lim pleaded guilty using another person's identity card without lawful authority. He will be sentenced on Oct 13. The offence carries a fine of up to $10,000 and/or a jail term of up to 10 years.
Lim, who works as a hawker at Alexandra Hospital, is a bankrupt and is barred from entering the two casinos here by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. The court was not told why or when he was made a bankrupt. Madam Soh, who was with her husband in court on Monday, kept shaking her head during the proceedings.
