JOHOR BARU: A man thought that he had bagged a great deal when he bought a smartphone via an online portal at a good price.

Manager Faizal Hussin, 41, bought the iPhone 4S smartphone for RM1,750, instead of its original retail price of RM2,400, from a seller named Jay One on Jan 3.

When the package arrived on Jan 6, he opened it and found a toy smartphone, a used paintbrush and a Chinese language novel, all wrapped in pieces of newspaper.

Faizal then called the seller, who promised to replace it, but did nothing since then.

“I cannot even use the paintbrush as it is hardened with paint and I do not know what to do with the Chinese novel,” he said at the Consumer Claims Tribunal here yesterday.

Tribunal president Maznah Haron issued an order for Faizal to be compensated the RM1,750 within 14 days.

She also advised Faizal to make a police report after the seller failed to appear at the tribunal.
