http://www.cannabismd.net/history-of-medical-cannabis/

Apparently Cannabis have been a part of Chinese culture as a substance of pleasure, medicine, food, fuel and fiber for the past 5000 years.

But then the US president Nixon decided to start the war on drugs in 1960 and all the Chinese leaders in Asia bow down to his will and ban their 5000 years worth of culture under penalty of death. In 30 to 40 years, almost all the Chinese community forgot about their heritage.

And now the Ang Mohs are trying to legalize Cannabis for their own country while the Chinese community still gong gong about their Cannabis heritage and impose death penalty.

So how, which is the better society? Ang Moh or Chinese?

In the last couple of hundred years, Western civilization overtook Eastern cultures because of the Age of Enligtenment, Age of Reason, which likely came about as a result of the closed reasoning of the monotheistic religions. Over in the East, I believe society during that time was more "liberal" but because of the early advancement, these societies became ethnocentric and that's where the decline began. When the two met (because of Western capitalism), and clashed (culminated with the Opium Wars), it was ancient medieval system versus Industrial Age powers. The East lost, and succumbed to Western rules under a strict Victorrian culture which subsequently became the "norm." We've remained conservative ever since, and took the conservative ways as "values" even.

However, there is no such thing as the end of time. Things go on and on. The last decades since the end of WW2 have seen the Eastern world pick up the pieces and move along; whilsts some Western countries have lost the edge. The world has become smaller and our species is really thriving on diversity.

Weed, we will eventually regain the old wisdom and smoke the weed again. Will happen sooner in some places though.

Cheers!

The pros and cons of marijuana are well known in this age of information, at least to the literate and exposed. But because of the Opium Wars in China, drugs (those classified as contraband) goes down badly with the general public. The ministers, I am sure they know their kids smoke the stuff when overseas (studying!!!), but will not talk about it here for fear of being politically incorrect. Society is still very anti-drug and believe the gahmen is doing the right thing by outlawing the good stuff.

Cheers!

Actually no... Banning Cannabis, in Singapore context, we are banned from the benefits of Cannabis as well... As you might have known that Cannabis is a very effective medicine to a lot of ailments that the general population are suffering from like diabetes and Cancer. In other world, thousands of people died simply because they are not given the best medicine.

But bigger than that, the War on Drugs in its entirety has been a big failure simply because of prohibition economics. Banning drugs does not make the drugs dissappear, it just put the drugs in the hands of criminals instead of a regulated market and it turns simply consumers into criminals.

Thailand and Myanmar drug trade is becoming more and more lucrative and drug trafficking in Singapore is getting higher steadily, just like everywhere else in the world.
