TigerAirways offering anything for the festive periods? Maybe they should send Rosalynn & Tiger's marketing & Strategy team & do a study/learning trip from AirAsia on how to run a successful business model.

AirAsia offering one million free seats

PETALING JAYA: Low-cost carrier AirAsia is giving away a million free seats from today to more than 70 destinations in China, India, Taiwan, Indonesia and Thailand.

Those interested in enjoying the free seats can book their tickets from today until Sunday, for flights between May 1 and Oct 30 next year.

AirAsia’s regional commercial head Kathleen Tan said when the economy was tough, people looked for travelling options that offered them better value for money.

“With no fuel surcharge and administration fee, this deal offers fantastic value to our guests,” she said in a statement yesterday.

She said to complement the free flights, AirAsia’s one-stop travel portal was also offering deals and packages including “free rooms” in more than 180 Asia-Pacific hotels online at http://goholiday.airasia.com.

For more information on free seats and other promotional tickets, visit www.airasia.com or mobile.airasia.com.

Very creative mktg strategy.

It's not 'free' free cos when u take up their package deals, they will cover their costs or even make a profit. BUT most passengers WILL take up their packages cos they are cheaper than anyone else can offer.

As for things across the causeway...down south, ALL people in charge have Permanent Head Damage and can only think of PROFITS. How to be creative and make people happy ?

Bro
AirAsia marketing strategy is to offer free tickets but they have to book now & plan the travel dates months ahead.
So people just book because its cheap & not because they had a travelling plan in mind at the moment.
As the travel date looms closer, the dropout rates are quite substanstial & AirAsia do not dish refunds because its already cheap to begin with.
This is how Airasia makes money -from the high dropout passengers rates.

Dunno why Tiger dont dare use this strategy. maybe they think Sporeans are very kiasu. Book 6 months down the road sure wont dropout one.

That would be a small part of their strategy ...yes, but i cannot see top mgmt saying yes to that being the main mktg criteria. that would be committing hari kiri. Betting on a high dropout rate is amounting to running your company based on gambling. No CEO will chance that.

In this mktg campaign the loss leader is/are the free tickets. In any business plan, there has to be a real source of revenue. Revenue that is tangible, products or services that can/must be sold.

Any mktg plan based on your theory is the same as REWARDS POINTS scheme where companies award redeemable points to customers. Most do not get redeemed in the process. BUT these companies than can use those as tax credits. It's different

Nothing is free la! If free, either got hidden cost or some silly condition you need to fulfil - like first 30 customers to register etc.

Its 1st 1 million customers. Go try it. I took an AirAsia flight from KL to KK for only RM68 return during last year's 1st million free tickets on offer. Have to pay something but for a 1 hr 45min flight at RM34 one way is already damn cheap. Tiger airways who flies from BUDGET TERMINAL aka El Cheapo, have anything to offer? At least jetstar has been doing a media blitz to promotte themselves.
