Adam Lambert says he will toe the line for Malaysian concert

KUALA LUMPUR: Adam Lambert has pledged to obey Malaysian government rules that forbid the flamboyant glam rocker from kissing anyone onstage and wearing revealing clothes for a concert this week, a show organiser said Tuesday.
The American Idol runner-up, who is currently touring Asia, wrote on Twitter that he would make minor changes to his regular show when he performs at a stadium here Thursday.

Lambert will heed restrictions against stripping, jumping and kissing onstage, said Yuen-See Cho, a representative for concert co-organiser Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia. "Basically, he has agreed to respect the guidelines that are set by the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry," Cho said. "We have shared with him in terms of what are the do's and don't's ... dressing and stuff like that."

Lambert wrote on Twitter late Monday that while he did not believe his shows were "in any way offensive, I have agreed to make a few minor adjustments out of respect for the Malaysian Government. Looking forward to a fun show." He did not elaborate on what the changes would be, and Cho said she was not aware of Lambert's specific plans. In recent years, several female Western pop stars, including Gwen Stefani and Fergie, revamped their wardrobe and avoided skimpy costumes to perform in Malaysia.

Lambert's planned concert has drawn objections from the opposition Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), which in the past also criticised concerts by Stefani, Avril Lavigne and other artistes it considers to be bad role models for youngsters. The Islamic party claimed Lambert was advocating homosexuality, but the singer said on Twitter that his show "promotes living any lifestyle that includes the freedom to seek love and intimacy.

Gay, straight, bi, young or old. It's all inclusive."
The party also pointed out that Lambert is known for racy performances. At last year's American Music Awards, he kissed a male keyboard player, dragged a female dancer around by the ankles and had a dancer simulate oral sex on him. Lambert's music is popular in Malaysia, and many of his fans say his sexuality doesn't bother them. - AP

Conditions set for Lambert’s concert in KL

PETALING JAYA: The Adam Lambert Glam Nation Tour concert in Malaysia will go on. The green light was given by the Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) with conditions attached. Puspal principal assistant secretary Mohd Dian Nais said among the guidelines were that the singer should dress appropriately and refrain from performing indecent acts, such as removing his clothes.

He was responding to a protest memorandum on the concert by Pas Youth deputy-chief Azman Shapawi Abd Rani. The memorandum referred to Lambert’s reputation for delivering sexually-provocative performances on stage, including kissing a male musician during a live performance at the American Music Awards in November 2009, an act which was also criticised in the US.

Mohd Dian added that concert organisers, Marctensia Entertain_ment and Sony Music Malaysia, had been given a briefing on the regulations. “Previously, we stopped (hip hop artist) Akon’s concert in Sunway Pyramid because the singer had acted indecently by removing his clothes during a previous concert,” he told Bernama here yesterday. The Adam Lambert concert is scheduled for Oct 14 at the Putra Indoor Stadium, Bukit Jalil.

KUALA LUMPUR: The show will go on for Adam Lambert despite protests from PAS. The flamboyant pop star assured his fans via his record label Sony Music Malaysia that he would be here. Glambert, as he is also known, will be arriving on Oct 13. He is scheduled to go on stage at the Putra Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Oct 14. An official from the Arts, Culture and Heritage Ministry said the singer had signed a contract, agreeing to abide by the rules. “Adam has promised us in writing not to pull any stunts during his Malaysian concert,” the official said. The American Idol Season Eight runner-up, who is openly gay, has made headlines due to his sexual orientation. During his recent concerts in Japan and Singapore, Glambert created media frenzy by kissing his bassist on stage.
