A Question of Fairness, MRT "Reserved Seating"

Wildfire

I have come across a number of postings in this forum regarding unhappy incident relating to
the issue of "Reserved Seating".

I would like to solicit your opinion on the fairness of such practice by our transport operators.

Also, your feedback on a broader social issue of graciousness.

Can graciousness be legislated

Just take away reserved seat poster/sign. Let passenger decide offer to seat to other person or not. It will prevent any confrontation. As all passenger know that is up the the person seated willingness and is not a must.

The only language a country filled with mostly country bumpkins understands are laws, regulations, and public humiliation so as to suffer a loss of face.

I'm surprised that this has created unhappiness. Most of us know that it is just a wayang. It is a cheap way for SMRT to show that it cares for it's passengers:biggrin:

Let people use their judgement. No need for legislation but some friendly reminders may be useful.

What about those who have a headache, stomachache or feel like fainting?
There should be a sign for "FEELING SICK OR UNWELL" passengers.

Very simple solution.
Install video cameras which are very cheap and easily available nowadays and focus them on all the reserved seats (6 carriages x 4 seats = 24 cameras per train.)

Record and post those unfairly occupied seats on YouTube. Occasionally get the help of our low class prostitutes to print those faces in their papers and broadcast them on TV news.

If the train operators think they do not have the budget, cannot afford, or do not have the time, let me know here.
I will do it free of charge but at my terms and conditions.....period.

There are fewer and fewer Sinkies Mums getting pregnant (our replacement ratio declining). But more and more seniors and the aged and handicapped (rapidly greying pop). We are (hopefully) scaring away India FTs who bring along their villages and super-prams and baby booms, Ah Tiongs are hopefully going home to their country which will be paying better...

So we shld be able to reduce seating reserved for pregnant Mums, but we have to increase the Reserved Seating for seniors, because the number of seniors is exploding in no time. So be very afraid, you young ingrate punks. Keep more seats for us!

The ratio of traitors and patriots stands at 60:40....there are many FTs also.
So when you give up seat, more likely to go to a traitor or FT than a fellow 40%.
So dun give up and suggest the 40% to fight for their seats to deprive the 60% and other FTs

So painting more reserved seating for oldies will be good, becos chances are he will be a Singaporean if he is an oldie. Old FTs will not be admitted as PRs, neither will the feeble, the sick..Getting rid of the pregnant seating will prevent a reserved seat going to a pregnant FT. So in the end, my suggestion will guarantee more seats for Sinkies. Then it's up to the oldies to decide whether to give up his seat for the tired, overworked, underpaid, disenfranchised local office worker.

Actually no need to even discuss on this matter, in many developed nations its automatic, no one will even think of sitting on these seats why Singaporeans need to discuss? Puzzles me.

Not necessarily. Certain classes of EPs and PRs can still bring their aged parents, spouse and children over to Singapore. Foreign born elderly aplenty on the trains.

Too many people, not enough resources?

Many times I've seen other commuters in HK's MTR intervening when a commuter does something considered unacceptable or anti-social. In S'pore it is very rare to see others intervening on behalf of another person's dignity. Over here, it is everyone for himself or herself.

That's the pap way! You die your business.
It's ironic too seeing how many people always refer to hk as materialistic people and grab money culture.
