SINGAPORE: The authorities have arrested 86 drug offenders and seized an assortment of drugs including some 300g of heroin in their first island-wide crackdown of the year.

As part of the operations, officers raided a dwelling at Hougang Avenue 8 on Wednesday, and arrested a 48-year-old man.

They seized some 52g of heroin, estimated to be worth over S$5,000.

Cash amounting to S$2,650, believed to be illicit proceeds from drug sale, was also seized.

A Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) statement on Friday said investigations on the man are ongoing.

If he is convicted of the drug offences, he faces at least five years' jail and five strokes of the cane.

In other operations carried out from January 7 to 10, the authorities arrested another 85 people.

Investigations on all the arrested are on-going.

In all, the authorities seized over S$39,000 worth of drugs, including some 304g of heroin, over 30g of “Ice” and 10g of cannabis, as well as some ketamine, Erimin5 and Ecstasy tables in the three-day crackdown.

CNB said the police also took part in the blitz, which covered locations including Ang Mo Kio, Beach Road, Bendemeer, Choa Chu Kang, Clementi, Hougang, Jurong and Woodlands. - CNA/gn
