SIX men were caught unpacking over 35,000 packs of cigarettes in a recent Singapore Customs raid. The two Singaporeans and four Bangladeshis arrested are believed to be members of a syndicate.
The cigarette packs were concealed in drums of rubber sheets. The men were nabbed by Singapore Customs officers as they were unpacking the contraband cigarettes on Aug 6, a day after the rubber drums had been dropped off at a warehouse along Defu Lane 1.
The Singaporean men had hired the Bangladeshis to assist them with the unpacking. All were charged in court on Friday and one Singaporean was sentenced to 30 months' jail. Court proceedings for the rest of the men are still ongoing.
