<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->I would like to recommend that Singapore build a permanent race track to host future F1 races.
I was at Marina Square and found that many motorists were inconvenienced because of road closures. The safety barricades along the roads were also very unsightly.
A permanent circuit can be used for events such as F1, go-kart racing and drifts. Singapore can also use the track to train its first F1 driver and even the world's first female F1 driver, and make it into the Guinness World Records.
Building and investing in a permanent race track will also boost Singapore's economy and motorists and businesses around Marina Square need not be inconvenienced. After all, not everyone is an F1 fan.
I was told that it took three months to set up the temporary track and it will take two months to tear down the structures after the race. With a permanent track, there is no need for such hassle and inconvenience. Ace Kindred Cheong

What's a Singapore Grand Prix without the view? Why would they bother with the heat and humidity here?

Ace is still a lad.

The FI does not take an aceman to teach the PAP baboons how to fuck.

F1 was at marina was to boost the hotel declining occupany rate and the failing retailing at this area. At the same breath, the PAP flyer would be white elephant if F1 was held somewhere else. PAP spent US105 million to hold F1, you think they were thinking of what---sales or reputation?

asshole loong only knew singapore is on world map after 43 years of success story?

They want to follow in foot-steps of the middle eastern royalty cousins, to be the 1st in achieving many different 'firsts' in the region. But 1 thing they failed to realise is that they don't have pockets half as deep at the middle eastern sheiks.

In the middle east, as long as you (citizen) have a legit business plan, the govt will dispense you the capital necessary to start up. YES! Dispense. Its not a loan, no interest bearing no need to return.

Here, they set up organizations to con entreprenuers, you come up with biz plan, then they VC potong jalan with your biz concept. In other words, making the rich become richer. The poor, consider lucky to remain poor, if not, become poorer.

Grand prix is all about performance by the constuctors, test of kills & strategy against ever-changing elements or circuit situation. Look at the monaco GP, there's also hardly any sights. All eyes are on the car & driver, or maybe some on the grid, umbrella, podium girls.

If you caught the race on telecast, you'd realise the empahsis was all about the teams, and very little coverage on the night sky. Even when they switched to the camera mounted on the hovering SP, it was only for mere seconds, and switched back to the race action.

Publicity & media exposure? I laugh at the miscalculated risk. I'm waiting to hear how naive the way they calculate the ROI.

The Singapore Cock Eye is still a piece of white elephant. I laugh at how many being conned to ride on it to see nothing but construction works in the fore-ground (sands site). And as they descend inwards, they see the pair of durian in foreground + westin swissotel standing tall in the background

issue of ROI to be KIV for review in a few yrs? yes, and the profit & loss remains to be reviewed as well.

hypothetically, as they claimed hosting 1 F1 race involved 105mill to prepare & host, and if the raking hovers 20-30% short of the cost incurred, repeat the same process of expenditure over the next 5yrs, coupled with additional 10-15% cost increment each time we host (to make it a new & exciting experience), with similar pro-rated raking per annum.... the figures on the profit & loss still not justified year on year.

not to forget, foreign incoming attendees remains variable, as not 100% of the F1 fans & followers who visited in the recent night race will be back for a 2nd time. (bearing the been there, done that mentality)

we musnt discount the disappointing impression engraved in the hearts & minds of the sikit atas, who had problems with the valets. they may or may not show face again in the 2nd, 3rd... time round.

F1: Organisers hope later GP start can appease Ecclestone
Melbourne race is financially draining, with Victoria losing almost US$33m of taxpayers' money in 2007.

Mon, Mar 10, 2008

AFP

MELBOURNE - AUSTRALIAN Formula One Grand Prix organisers have flagged a later start to the race next year in a bid to prevent the event heading offshore.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation chairman Ron Walker said on Monday next year's race would start at 5pm in an attempt to satisfy Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

Ecclestone has threatened to strip Australia of the race when the track's current contract expires in 2010 - unless organisers agree to stage the Grand Prix at night so European television audiences can see it live at a reasonable hour.

But Walker said there was no chance that financial backer the Victoria state government could meet the cost of running it under lights, estimated to cost around US$60 million (S$52.7 million) to install.

The best Walker said he could do to satisfy Ecclestone's night race directive was to cater for the later start.

'Let's clear the air and say that compromise is the art of good business, and we have made a huge compromise in terms of what Mr Ecclestone wants,' Walker told a press conference.

'I think Mr Ecclestone is a very fair person actually and probably one of the greatest sports promoters in the world today and he understands how we run the sport.'

'I believe we've gone a long way to appeasing Mr Ecclestone's aims to increase the TV audiences worldwide and I believe we will achieve that by the 5pm start.'

Ecclestone is expected to discuss the thorny night race issue with Victorian premier John Brumby over the next week.

Walker said the sprawling Albert Park venue made it impossible to stage the Australian GP under lights.

'We've got 300 hectares (740 acres) of land here,' he said. 'It's just not lighting of the track here, it's lighting the whole park to protect our patrons.'

Ecclestone wants Australia to fall into line with Singapore, which will stage the first-ever F1 night race on Sept 28.

But Walker said the situation in Singapore did not compare to Melbourne's Albert Park venue.

'It's different because they are doing a night race in the city of Singapore itself,' he said.

The Australian Grand Prix has a contract with Ecclestone that will keep it in Melbourne until 2010.

Australian Grand Prix organisers have already moved the start time for Sunday's race from its traditional 2pm to 3.30pm (12.30pm Singapore time) so more European fans can watch live television coverage of the race.

Walker said if the later start time boosted international viewing numbers, then it would be pushed back further to 5pm in 2009.
'All this can be achieved without any additional infrastructure costs.'
The Melbourne race is financially hemorrhaging with Victoria losing almost 35 million dollars (US$33 million) of taxpayers' money in 2007.

It is budgeting for a blowout of more than 40 million dollars this year.

All up, the Melbourne GP has lost more than US$120 million since the race from switched from Adelaide in 1996. -- AFP

Well, F1 doesn't pay for itself. SPH, by publishing the article itself, is basically admitting it themselves.

It even needs more taxpayers money to make itself viable enough.

This discussion on ROI is worth coming back in a few years. It is still too early to give final judgement.

That kind of quantitative estimations should have made during the plans. They publish in newspapers and news claiming that this F1 shit will bring sinky alot of profit but the result doesn't turn out to be so. Why? The so-called scholars of the Pees simply 'eat wasted rice'
