A 20-year-old senior high school dropout was executed on Feb. 13 for a killing spree that left seven dead in nine days across Hunan, Guangdong and Yunnan provinces, according to the QQ Chinese-language news portal.

According to court documents, Liu Qizhi of Wugang in Hunan province and his cohort identified only by the surname Fu killed a couple on Aug. 21, 2012 in Wugang and stolen about 1,000 yuan (US$160), a mobile phone and three cartons of cigarettes worth 165 yuan (US$26) before fleeing the scene on a stolen scooter.

The suspects took a bus to Dongguan, Guangdong province the next day.

On Aug. 23, less than two days later, Liu and Fu rented a room in Dongguan before killing the landlord and his wife on Aug. 25. They looted the place and fled to Yunnan, the court found.

The duo arrived in the provincial capital Kunming on Aug. 27 and reached Fuyuan county the next day, where they killed a village committee leader surnamed Tang before looting his possessions.

On Aug. 30, they killed a pregnant woman surnamed Wu and her two-year-old daughter before ransacking her home, the court said.

Fu and Liu were arrested on Sept. 6 and Sept. 7, respectively.

The Intermediate People's Court of Qujing in Yunnan ruled that Liu and Fu colluded and robbed the murder victims. The were found guilty of killing all seven and of robbery on four counts in Hunan, Guangdong and Yunnan.

Liu was sentenced to death and stripped of political rights, and his personal assets were confiscated.

Fu, as a minor older than 14 but under 18, was handed a life sentence, stripped his political rights for life and his personal assets.

The duo's legal guardians have been ordered to compensate the families of each victim 250,000 yuan (US$40,000).
