A 38-YEAR-OLD hawker has been jailed for 18 years and ordered to be caned 24 strokes for sexually assaulting his teenage daughter. The man, who cannot be named to protect the girl's identity, pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts of rape and one count of molestation. Another three molestation counts were taken into account during sentencing. The offences were committed in the girl's bedroom in June and July last year. On July 28, while she was in class, the girl, now 14, doodled on a piece of paper, expressing her disgust at what her father had done to her. Her best friend suggested they tell an adult and eventually, the school principal and counsellor took the girl to make a police report.

A 15-YEAR-OLD girl here now believes that being raped by her father is punishment for an infraction, like getting into a fight with her brother.
And now that her 38-year-old hawker dad has been caught and sentenced to 18 years behind bars and 24 strokes of the cane, she is blaming herself too, for his imprisonment. The abuse, which took place in her bedroom between June and July last year, started when she was 13. The first three times, he sexually assaulted her after she had done something wrong. Right after violating her, he rebuked her for her misdeeds. She came to see it as his method of discipline. On Friday, the man pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one of molestation. Three other molestation charges were considered during sentencing. Neither he, nor the girl, can be named.
