SINGAPORE - A young woman has been arrested for allegedly misappropriating cash, vouchers and other items from a 24-hour supermarket, police said.

She is understood to be an employee of the supermarket.

In a statement on Sunday, police said they were informed that cash was stolen at Fortune Supermarket at Sembawang Drive on July 15.

They arrested a 17-year-old woman on Saturday (July 18) and seized $300 in cash, 72 lucky draw vouchers, four packets of cigarettes and two bags.

Supermarket owner Mr Tan told local Chinese evening paper, Lianhe Wanbao, that the employee worked the night shift, and CCTV footage showed that she would give her friends cigarettes when they came by the shop.

He also found shortfalls in the earnings a few days after she joined. A "wanted" poster with her photo was posted on the supermarket's Facebook page on Friday (July 17).

The suspect will be charged in court on Monday (July 20). If found guilty, she could be jailed for up to 15 years and fined for criminal breach of trust as a servant.
