Some of the women arrested during the raid last Thursday had advertised their sexual services on the Internet, said a police statement on Sunday. Police superintendent Goh Lam Kiong, assistant director of the Specialised Crime Division, said that the police takes 'a serious view against such syndicates which conduct their illicit businesses over the Internet.' 'Hotel operators who are found to have knowingly allowed the syndicates to operate in their premises will also be taken to task,' he added. Under the Women's Charter, any person who lives on the earnings of a prostitute can be jailed for up to five years fined up to $10,000. Repeat male offenders can also be caned.
