Inter 3 Palermo 0: First win in four for Mancini´s men

8 February 2015

785921header.jpg

Inter climbed above Milan on goal difference with their first Serie A win in four on Sunday - a 3-0 victory over Palermo.

Inter defeated Palermo 3-0 on Sunday to register their first victory in four Serie A matches.

Roberto Mancini's men had suffered back-to-back defeats in their last two games – part of a run that saw Inter slip to 13th.

The hosts looked the better side at San Siro on this occasion and went ahead through a Fredy Guarin header in the 16th minute, although they did have to ride their luck at times.

Palermo will wonder how they were unable to pull level in the 50th minute, when a remarkable series of goalscoring opportunities culminated in Paulo Dybala blasting over from two yards out.

Inter struck the woodwork twice at the other end before Mauro Icardi doubled the lead with a low drive in the 65th minute, and the Argentine put the result beyond doubt with a headed effort two minutes from time.

The result sees Inter climb above local rivals Milan on goal difference into ninth.

Guarin came into the Inter starting XI as one of three changes to the side that suffered a 1-0 defeat to Napoli in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Wednesday and, after Juan Jesus had tested Stefano Sorrentino with an early header, the Colombia international broke the deadlock.

The former Porto man rose highest from a Xherdan Shaqiri corner to head the ball against the ground and beyond Sorrentino.

Dybala had curled over a free-kick from a dangerous position prior to Guarin's opener, and Palermo's first chance to equalise went begging as Luca Rigoni found the side-netting from an Achraf Lazaar cross.

Yuto Nagatomo was forced from the field after receiving treatment for an apparent thigh injury, with Dodo coming on in his place, and Inter struggled to test Sorrentino after going ahead – Gary Medel's optimistic long-range strike about as close as they came before half-time.

Palermo should have been level five minutes into the second half, but a series of glorious opportunities failed to bear fruit.

Edgar Barreto squared to Dybala when shooting was arguably the better option, before the ball broke to Franco Vazquez on the edge of the penalty area.

The 25-year-old's low drive hit the left-hand upright but bounced across the face of goal to Dybala, who inexplicably blasted over from point-blank range.

Inter hit the woodwork twice at the other end soon after – Icardi sending a clever looping header against the right-hand upright, before Andrea Ranocchia headed against the crossbar.

Mancini's side doubled their advantage in the 65th minute, though, when the ball found Icardi in space inside the Palermo box, and the Argentine converted a low strike.

Both goalscorers combined for Inter's late third - Guarin chipping in a cross from the byline for Icardi to head home and make sure of three points and a position above Milan in the table.

Serie A Review: Roma back to winning ways, Napoli victorious again

8 February 2015

785965header.jpg

Roma won for the first time in five Serie A matches on Sunday, while Napoli made it four wins on the bounce.

Roma picked up a 2-1 win at Cagliari on Sunday to register their first victory in five Serie A fixtures.

Rudi Garcia had seen his side's title tilt falter in recent weeks, going on a run of four draws on the bounce, but a return to winning ways pulls Roma within seven points of leaders Juventus, who beat Milan 3-1 on Saturday.

Adem Ljajic powered into the roof of the net after some neat build-up play in the 37th minute, before Leandro Paredes doubled the advantage with a driven half-volley five minutes from time.

Paul-Jose M'Poku headed a late consolation for Cagliari but there was not enough time for the hosts to find an equaliser.

Napoli, who have now won four in a row, remain in touch with the top two following their 3-1 win at home to Udinese.

Dries Mertens tucked home the first, before Manolo Gabbiadini raced onto a through-ball to net the second.

Cyril Thereau pulled one back before the end of the first half, but had the ball in his own net on the stroke of the hour thanks to a fluffed attempted clearance from a free-kick.

Napoli remain four points adrift of Roma, while Udinese are 12th.

Fiorentina came out on top in a five-goal thriller at home to Atalanta, winning 3-2, and climb above Sampdoria after Sinisa Mihajlovic's men were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo.

Elsewhere, Inter defeated Palermo 3-0 to register their first victory in four Serie A matches.

Roberto Mancini's men had suffered back-to-back defeats in their last two games – part of a run that saw Inter slip to 13th.

The hosts looked the better side at San Siro on this occasion and went ahead through a Fredy Guarin header in the 16th minute, before two goals from Mauro Icardi made absolutely sure of the points.

In the day's remaining fixture, Empoli boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win over lowly Cesena.

Performance at Juventus a ´starting point´ for Inzaghi

8 February 2015

785596header.jpg

Filippo Inzaghi failed to secure a win at Juventus to lift the pressure upon him but the Milan coach believes their display was encouraging.

Milan's performance in Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Serie A champions Juventus can be used as a "starting point" to reignite the San Siro club's stuttering season, says Filippo Inzaghi.

Goals from Carlos Tevez and Leonardo Bonucci sandwiched Luca Antonelli's effort on his second Milan debut before Alvaro Morata settled the contest for Juve.

Giampaolo Pazzini was denied by a fine Gianluigi Buffno save with the scores at 2-1, and Inzaghi saw plenty of positives in Milan's game.

He said: "Despite many relevant absentees, I think that the team showed a great attitude today.

"It's pretty clear that playing against a full-strength Juventus side is not easy for anyone, otherwise they wouldn't have won all those games so far.

"But I think that we were always in the game and in fact we also had the chance to make it 2-2 with Pazzini and we could have reopened the game.

"So, despite the defeat I think that this can be a new starting point."

"Obviously we should make fewer mistakes because we conceded goals like sitting ducks.

"But I think that both the second half against Parma and today's game can be new starting points for us while we recover the 14 injured players we've got."

Allegri non-committal on regular Morata starts

8 February 2015

785629header.jpg

Alvaro Morata impressed in Juventus' 3-1 win over Milan, but head coach Massimiliano Allegri refused to guarantee his starting place.

Head coach Massimiliano Allegri was non-committal on whether Alvaro Morato has done enough to cement his place in Juventus' starting XI.

The Spanish striker was on the scoresheet as the Serie A champions downed Milan 3-1 at Juventus Stadium on Saturday.

It was the fourth time in the past six games that Morata was handed a start, as Allegri continues to decide on who is the best partner for regular starter Carlos Tevez.

But, while giving credit to the blossoming partnership between Tevez and Morata, Allegri was keen to highlight the strength of his striking options.

Asked whether Morata had done enough to cement a starting place, he said: "Well I have got five strikers at my disposal and they are all quality strikers and that’s important."

"It's normal that the more the players play together the more they know each other, so Morata and Tevez are playing more and more together and it's normal that they can only improve."

Allegri also stated that sought-after midfielder Paul Pogba will continue to improve after falling below his usual level for the league leaders against Filippo Inzaghi's men.

"Pogba is young and he is a fantastic guy who still has space for improvement," he added.

"It's normal that he must grow up especially because he needs to understand the moments when he can do certain things and there are other moments when he can't."

Morrison cancels West Ham contract

8 February 2015

With a move to Lazio looking likely, Ravel Morrison has cancelled his contract with Premier League side West Ham.

Ravel Morrison has cancelled his contract with West Ham, paving the way for a move to Lazio.

The attacking midfielder has been touted as one of English football's hottest prospects, but departs Upton Park having failed to make his mark at the London club.

Morrison moved to West Ham from Manchester United in January 2012, but managed just 24 appearances in that time - most of which came in a breakthrough spell last season.

A string of impressive performances, including a wondrous solo goal in a victory at Tottenham, proved to be a false dawn and Morrison has since spent time on loan in the Championship at QPR and Cardiff City.

A West Ham statement read: "The Hammers would like to wish Ravel every success in his future career."

Morrison was pictured in Rome during the January transfer window undergoing a medical before posting a picture of a Lazio shirt with his name on the back.

Reports suggested Morrison had agreed a pre-contract agreement at the Stadio Olimpico, though his release may allow a move to go through sooner.

Row over replays rumbles on between Milan and Juve

8 February 2015

785851header.jpg

Serie A giants Milan and Juventus continue to exchange a war of words over the use of replays to depict Carlos Tevez's goal on Saturday.

Milan and Juventus continue to bicker over Carlos Tevez's goal and the replays that followed it in Saturday's Serie A meeting between the two sides.

Tevez raced away to score the opener in a 3-1 home win for Juve, with replays suggesting the Argentine had strayed marginally offside.

Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani claimed that Juve manipulated the replays in such a way to show Tevez to be onside, and vowed to bring up the matter with the relevant authorities.

Juve responded to those allegations in a statement on Sunday, rubbishing Galliani's remarks and claiming the Milan CEO was attempting to shift focus away from his side's defeat.

In turn, Milan released a statement of their own, which read: "Arrogance is a Juventus trait and something that they cannot escape from.

"It would be superfluous to respond to anyone like this.

"It is a good thing however that even they agree to open up the discussion and debate over the production of TV graphics which emerged following the episode during Juventus-Milan last night."

Mancini: Icardi should have celebrated

9 February 2015

786012header.jpg

Roberto Mancini said Mauro Icardi's non-celebration on Sunday was down to a row with Inter's fans, as they beat Palermo 3-0 in Serie A.

Inter coach Roberto Mancini said Mauro Icardi's refusal to celebrate either of his two goals in their win over Palermo was down to a row with fans.

Icardi scored Inter's second and third goals in their 3-0 win at San Siro on Sunday, their first win in four seeing them rise to ninth in the Serie A table.

Mancini said Icardi's lack of exuberance after each goal was down to a strenuous relationship with the club's fans, as the Argentinean striker and Fredy Guarin saw their shirts thrown back at them in Sassuolo after handing their tops to supporters.

"In my opinion you should celebrate after a goal," the former Manchester City boss told Sky Sport Italia.

"I don't think he's unhappy, I assume it's a leftover from last Sunday. The fans cheered him, so it seems to be sorted out.

"Guarin played well, though at times he gets a bit stubborn with the ball and can lose his way.

"He's perfect as the deeper point of a midfield three, as he plays the ball well and has great power."

Mancini said Inter's performance on Sunday differed little from their losses to Napoli and Sassuolo, the Italian claiming fortune was not in their favour previously.

"Tonight's Inter is the one I wanted," Mancini added.

"It's also the one I saw against Napoli and Sassuolo.

"The only time it wasn't my Inter was against Empoli, as in the other occasions we made costly mistakes.

"We have to keep training, as things are starting to go our way and at times you need a bit of luck too."

The luck that went Inter's way on Sunday was in the form of Palermo's profligacy, as Franco Vazquez hit the woodwork with the visitors trailing 1-0 early in the second half - while Luca Rigoni also missed a gilt-edged chance in the first stanza.

"I don't know how Dodo made that mistake, as he had a team-mate three metres away and wasn't even under pressure," Mancini said, of Inter's defending when Vazquez narrowly failed to equalise.

"This is the kind of error that we paid for in the other games. We cannot keep giving the ball away in these situations."

Lazio 0 Genoa 1: Perotti penalty punishes Marchetti

9 February 2015

786459header.jpg

Diego Perotti scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as Genoa defeated 10-man Lazio 1-0 in Serie A on Monday.

Lazio missed out on the chance to go fourth in Serie A as they fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Genoa after Diego Perotti converted a penalty following goalkeeper Federico Marchetti's sending off in the first half.

A win would have seen Stefano Pioli's side leapfrog both Sampdoria and Fiorentina in the table, but defeat means they remain sixth.

The key moment in the game arrived shortly before the half-hour mark.

On-loan Milan forward M'Baye Niang sprung the offside trap and raced onto a pass from Andrea Bertolacci, where he was taken out inside the area by Marchetti.

Referee Andrea Gervasoni had little option but to brandish a straight red card and replacement keeper Etrit Berisha was brought on with Danilo Cataldi sacrificed.

Berisha could do nothing about Perotti's calm spot-kick, however, as Genoa ended a seven-match winless run and climbed to just one place and two points behind their opponents in the table.

Morata learning from 'world class' Tevez

Feb 9, 2015 11:58:12

The Spanish attacker has insisted that he is learning a lot from his team-mate and has hailed his role in Juventus' successful season so far

Alvaro Morata says he is proud to play alongside a "true champion" like Carlos Tevez in the wake of Juventus' 3-1 Serie A win over AC Milan on Saturday.

The duo both scored once in the reigning champions' victory at the Juventus Stadium, with Tevez netting the opener and Morata getting his side's third goal to effectively put the match to bed.

The Argentine leads the Serie A goalscoring charts with 14 goals in 21 appearances and Morata has stressed that he's learning a lot from his experienced team-mate.

"Carlos is a point of reference for any striker," Morata was quoted as saying by Tuttosport.

"I am learning so much from him. He is a true champion and a world class attacker.

"He is not only very strong in the technical aspect of the game, but he has great charisma as well and is able to transmit his desire to fight and win to the team."

Morata, 22, has scored five goals in 17 Serie A games since joining Juventus from Real Madrid ahead of this season.

AC Milan did us proud against Juventus, says Galliani

Stefan Coerts
Feb 10, 2015 12:50:20

The Rossoneri were not satisfied with the outcome of the game, but they saw plenty of reasons for optimism in the 3-1 defeat on Saturday

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has stressed the San Siro side's performance against Juventus at the weekend did club president Silvio Berlusconi proud, regardless of the 3-1 defeat.

Goals from Carlos Tevez, Leonardo Bonucci and Alvaro Morata made Luca Antonelli's debut strike irrelevant as the Rossoneri eventually left Turin empty-handed.

Despite yet another defeat leaving the team in 12th place, Galliani and Berlusconi had no complaints about the display.

"Berlusconi was pleased with the team's performance against Juventus," Galliani told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The team never gave up, even though there were many injuries and we tried to play an attacking style. We saw a Milan that did us proud.

"Of course, we are not happy about the result, but we put in a food performance. We did not play badly.

"Let's not forget that it was an away game against the team that sits atop of the table.

"We have analysed the situation with [Filippo] Inzaghi and we have to work hard. We are all pulling in the same direction."

Milan sit joint 10th in the Serie A table with 29 points from 22 games.

El Shaarawy backs under-fire Inzaghi

11 February 2015

787082header.jpg

Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy stressed that his team-mates have "great faith" in embattled coach Filippo Inzaghi.

Reports suggest Filippo Inzaghi's days at Milan are numbered but forward Stephan El Shaarawy threw his support behind the under-fire coach on Tuesday.

Inzaghi's job has been the subject of great debate in recent weeks, with Milan languishing in 11th position after 22 rounds of Serie A.

Saturday's 3-1 loss at leaders Juventus left Milan with just one win from their past seven league fixtures, increasing the pressure on Inzaghi.

But El Shaarawy, who is no closer to a return from a broken metatarsal after revealing he will remain in a cast for another three weeks, said while results are not ideal, the players are united behind the 41-year-old.

"The coach is giving his all, just like the team," El Shaarawy told reporters. "We have great faith in him.

"He's a great coach and a wonderful person. We are all with Inzaghi.

"It is not an easy time, but we have to unite as a team and be more aware of our capabilities.

"We must take it one game at a time. A month ago we were seen as Champions League candidates, now as if we're heading for relegation.

"We just have to focus on doing our best."

Hernanes: This is Inter´s moment of truth

11 February 2015

787187header.jpg

Inter midfielder Hernanes has full faith in Roberto Mancini's ability to turn the San Siro club's flagging season around.

Hernanes believes Inter are facing a "moment of truth" in their upcoming run of fixtures as they look to kickstart a flagging Serie A campaign and return to UEFA Europa League action.

Inter snapped a three-match losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Palermo on Sunday, taking them up to 10th in the league – five points off a European place.

Roberto Mancini has struggled to revive Inter's fortunes since replacing Walter Mazzarri in November but, with fixtures against Atalanta, Cagliari and Fiorentina intertwining European meetings with Celtic, Hernanes is confident they can find form.

"I feel the confidence of Mancini," he said.

"The important thing is to move on as a team from this period in which we were not getting results.

"No matter who plays, whoever is on the field must do better. Now it's time to get down to work.

"This is the moment of truth and we can’t afford any more mistakes."

Inter host Celtic in two weeks' time in the first leg of their round-of-32 Europa League clash before heading to Glasgow.

Hernanes stopped short of labelling winning the competition as a defined ambition, but he believes the knockout format could play into their hands.

He added: "Europa League? This is not the time to set targets.

"But it is certainly a goal as it is only seven games [between now and winning the final]."

Rossi closing in on Fiorentina return

11 February 2015

787352header.jpg

After another lengthy absence due to a knee injury, Giuseppe Rossi is confident he will be ready to make his Fiorentina return soon.

Fiorentina striker Giuseppe Rossi could soon be making his long-awaited return from injury after participating in light training.

Rossi has not featured for Fiorentina since a 2-2 draw at home to Torino on the final day of the Serie A season.

The former Villarreal man was integral to Fiorentina's success last season, scoring 17 goals despite being injured for large parts of the campaign.

Vincenzo Montella's side have been without a recognised goalscorer in recent months, but the return of Mario Gomez, and potentially Rossi, will lift morale at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

"I'm feeling fine, I've started training again," explained Rossi. "It will take a little longer to get back on the pitch, but I'm satisfied with my progress so far.

"We are a team with a lot of talented players, we lost a champion like [Juan] Cuadrado, but we managed to get [Alessandro] Diamanti and [Mohamed] Salah.

"They already made an impact last Sunday - we're happy about our squad right now."

Salah and Diamanti played in the 3-2 win over Atalanta at the weekend, with the latter getting on the scoresheet.

De Sciglio: Milan will turn things around

Stefan Coerts
Feb 11, 2015 14:23:21

The Italy international has little doubt the Rossoneri can overcome their difficulties and improve in the remainder of the season

Mattia De Sciglio has admitted that AC Milan have failed to live up to expectations so far this term, but he is confident they will bounce back and climb up the table.

Filippo Inzaghi's men currently sit joint 10th in the Serie A table with 29 points from 22 games, yet De Sciglio believes they have what it takes to overcome their difficulties following the arrival of several new players in the January transfer window.

"We are disappointed with the way the season is going. Obviously everyone expected something better," De Sciglio was quoted as saying on the official Milan website.

"However, we want to change things around and we believe we can do it if we work hard. We want to climb up the table as high as possible.

"The new signings have settled in straightaway. They are experienced players and they have all played at the highest level in Serie A for a long time so they will be a big help to us.

"We can say that the team is relaxed despite the fact that results have not been going our way."

Milan resume Serie A action at home against Empoli on Sunday.

Roma depend too much on Totti, says Sacchi

412202_heroa.jpg

By Stefan Coerts
Feb 10, 2015 10:34:02

The legendary former coach feels the Stadio Olimpico side have too many limitations to seriously battle Juventus for the Scudetto

Former Italy coach Arrigo Sacchi feels Roma are too reliant on Francesco Totti to be able to challenge Juventus for the Serie A title.

Rudi Garcia's men were regarded as the reigning champions' biggest rivals in the race for the Scudetto, yet they have already fallen seven points behind after a string of disappointing results.

Sacchi says he has been disappointed by the capital club's efforts this season, insisting they must become more of a team.

"At the start of the season, we expected a fight between Juventus and Roma for the Scudetto," Sacchi told Tuttosport.

"Juventus have been replicating last season's form. Massimiliano Allegri is probably less of a teacher than Antonio Conte, but he has other qualities that allow Juve to keep performing at the same level.

"Unfortunately, Roma have shown that they have certain limitations. They have individual quality but are still too reliant on a player like Totti, who is 38 now.

"It is not all about individual players in football, but about the collective. Their defensive organisation is still a bit rough around the edges.

"Roma - and Napoli for that matter - are not as accustomed to winning as Juventus. This makes a big difference."

Totti has netted four goals in 17 Serie A appearances so far this season.

Vanney pleased with ´special´ Giovinco

12 February 2015

787682header.jpg

Toronto coach Greg Vanney hailed high-profile recruit Sebastian Giovinco, who participated in his first training session.

Sebastian Giovinco may have only taken part in his first training session with Toronto but the Italy international forward made an immediate impact, drawing high praise from coach Greg Vanney on Wednesday.

Giovinco took part in training for the first time since joining Toronto from Serie A champions Juventus on a five-year deal reportedly worth $7 million per season.

And the agile 28-year-old left a lasting impression on Vanney following Wednesday's session.

"I'm very pleased," Vanney told reporters. "It's what I had seen of him when we were doing all our scouting.

"He's very quick and nifty in the pockets, in those little tight spaces. He gets himself facing forward and he's shifty. He can unbalance defenders and create little fractions of time in areas where a lot of guys can't.

"His vision around the field to bring other people into the game is special."

Giovinco, who has earned 21 caps for the Italian national team since 2011, said: "It's been a very good day. My impressions of the team are good and the training session was difficult.

"Soccer in Canada is growing, as well as the infrastructure. In Italy there are big clubs with facilities that are a little bit better, but I love the grounds here. Everything you need is here."

Muriel enjoying new lease of life under Mihajlovic

12 February 2015

787878header.jpg

Sampdoria welcome helping restore Luis Muriel's self-belief after struggling under Andrea Stramaccioni at former club Udinese.

Luis Muriel has delivered a veiled dig at Udinese coach Andrea Stramaccioni after praising the philosophies of Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The Colombian striker moved to Sampdoria in January after overcoming concerns over his fitness prior to the completion of the deal.

He has yet to make his Samp debut but already feels at home, giving particular praise to the welcome he has received from his new head coach Mihajlovic.and also president Massimo Ferrero after struggling at Udinese.

"I wanted at all costs to come to Genoa," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "If things had fallen through, I used to think it would be the end of me, that I wouldn't make it in Udine.

"Ferrero didn't know me, but he showed me affection right off the bat. And Mihajlovic showed me how much he cared for me from the first meeting.

"After a year-and-a-half in which you're not doing very well, finding a coach who really believes in you is fundamental."

Muriel has struggled to replicate the form he showed in the 2012-13 season when he netted 11 Serie A goals, a dip in form that he blames on the coaching staff.

"They started asking things that they didn't require of me before, like running after everyone," he added.

"That was the role of Alexis Sanchez, who did that well. But I didn't have the same characteristics, so I struggled a lot.

"I was no longer thinking straight, so it was time to find a new scene and start again."

De Rossi: I almost left Roma

12 February 2015

788017header.jpg

Loyalty is rare in modern day football, but Daniele De Rossi revealed how he has rejected several offers to remain a one-man club with Roma.

Daniele De Rossi admits there have been times when he almost left Roma, but claims his deep love of the club convinced him to stay.

The Italy international is a one-club man and has made over 350 Serie A appearances since making his debut for in January 2003.

De Rossi, who earned his 100th cap for Italy last year, has followed in the footsteps of his father Alberto - who has been involved at Stadio Olimpico for the past 21 years as a player and a coach.

The 31-year-old's talents on the pitch have seen him linked with the likes Real Madrid and Manchester United in the past, but De Rossi stated that he and his father share a bond with the club that would make it difficult to walk away.

"At certain times there was a slight possibility of leaving, but deep down we [De Rossi and his father] share a love for this club and that's what keeps us going," he told UEFA.com.

"In modern-day football it's [his loyalty] an exception, there are a lot of things to consider now."

De Rossi has made 14 Serie A appearances for Roma this season, helping Rudi Garcia's men to second in the league table - seven points adrift of leaders Juventus.

Emerson warns Pogba to think carefully before leaving Juve

13 February 2015

788333header.jpg

Former Juventus midfielder Emerson wants Paul Pogba to think carefully should he ever consider leaving the Serie A giants.

Nine years on from his departure from Juventus, former Brazil international Emerson has warned Paul Pogba to carefully consider his decision should he ever think of doing the same.

Emerson went to Real Madrid in 2006 at the height of the Calciopoli scandal and has revealed that perhaps he departed Turin too soon.

Following much speculation about the highly rated Pogba, the France international extended his deal at Juve in October last year, which will keep him at the club until 2019.

That agreement appears to have secured Pogba's future for the time being and Emerson wants the 21-year-old to take time over any decisions that may arise further down the line.

"When I left Juventus to follow [Fabio] Capello to Spain, Juve were in a different situation that the current side," Emerson told Tuttosport.

"Calciopoli had broken and the club needed to raise funds by selling players. I accepted Real Madrid's offer, knowing I was moving to one of the best clubs in the world.

"However, now after some time and being a little bit older I would act differently. I was fine at Juve, I'm sorry I left.

"Pogba? This is just my personal experience, each situation is different and a player has to make a decision based on their feelings at the time.

"Having said that, leaving Turin this summer would be different to 2006. Real Madrid are always one of the world's top teams , but now Juve have returned to their historical level: dominant in Italy and aiming to win in Europe.

"If Pogba stays, alongside the likes of [Carlos] Tevez, [Andrea] Pirlo and [Arturo] Vidal and maybe a big signing, the distance to the superpowers narrows.

"It depends on what Pogba wants, but one thing is for sure, when you change teams you have to start again from the beginning.

"At Juve, Pogba is protected, comfortable and has a near-phenomenon in Pirlo alongside him to help him."

Parma facing more sanctions

13 February 2015

788629header.jpg

The troubles continue to mount for Serie A's bottom club Parma, who face further sanctions for failing to pay players and staff.

Beleaguered Parma are facing up to the possibility of being docked further points over unpaid wages.

The financially stricken Serie A club were hit with a one-point penalty earlier this season for failing to pay players and staff.

Now, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has confirmed that Parma - who are rock bottom of Serie A - have been deferred to the Disciplinary Commission again having failed to pay wages for July, August and September last year.

Parma's former president Tommaso Ghirardi and director general Pietro Leonardi are also facing punishment from the FIGC.

A Russian-Cypriot consortium bought the club from Ghirardi in December, but they subsequently sold their shares earlier this month with Giampietro Manenti confirmed as president earlier this week.
