Employers in Singapore will have to pay Filipino maids at least $550 per month, up from $500 a month, according to local media reports.

It would be the first minimum wage increase for Filipino maids in three years.

Maid agencies who submitted employment contracts to the Philippine embassy last week have had their contracts rejected as the salaries were too low, The Straits Times said in a news report on Thursday.

Philippine labour officials contacted by Yahoo have yet to confirm the increase.

The reported increase comes after an announcement from the Indonesian Embassy in November last year that the minimum salary for Indonesian maids would rise from $500 to $550 a month.

In December last year, the Philippine Embassy reportedly tightened restrictions on Filipinos coming to Singapore to work as domestic workers by processing only five employment contracts per employment agency each week.

The last increase for Filipino maids occurred in 2012, when their monthly pay in Singapore went up to $500.

I hope singapore would allow us to source for maids from Sudan and other parts of East Africa. That region was once famous for their local produce of slaves.

I thought it had been for some time, the minimum wage for the Pinoys were $600 every Sunday Off, Indonesians $500 every Sunday, Myanmar $400-$450....no Sunday off, some get 1 Sunday off or 2 Sundays off..

At first, to these FDW, every Sunday off was very attractive , unless they have 'sideline' or boy friends that give them money on day off, they soon realise that Singapore is a damn expensive place on off days..so many, rather take only 1 or 2 Sundays off & get paid for the other 2 or 3 Sundays working...

It certainly is! When I was working in Dubai years ago, we could get serfs for free! My neighbours didn't pay their serfs for years!

My future plan is to hire a maid without any maid levy, or middle person. That is one of the reasons for relocating elsewhere, away from the PAP parasites.

Other countries should follow suit and demand for minimum wage for their workers as well,soon sinkieland will be the first to have minimum wage for foreigners and ministars but not locals.

We have trade unions like NTUC, & the maid/worker levy:rolleyes:

The majority in Spore voted for this.

You can trace the 'sale' of the Singapore workers way back to the 1980's...when the unions were 'taken over'....can fairly fixed a date...from the year 1984......you no longer have workers running a union for the workers.....

The FDW wages have gone up is due to the intervention of the foreign governments to protect the rights of their workers overseas....
