in the west, exam starts at the age of 15/16 for "o" level unless they are genius and can take these at earlier age.
The idea of examination and school system in the west is to find the capable ones either intellectual, or in sports and arts. Not to embarrass students with lousy grades. Normally, they only take 5 subjects or less for "o" level thus focussing on their interest. language is not compulsory if you can answer the questions competently, then you language ability is fine.
our school system is stuck with what was imposed in the 40's. until today, there is streaming etc which is totally unacceptable. students should choose the subjects they want and at their comfort speed.
