Dear readers,

Please be informed that we will be performing ‘planned maintenance’ late today on our servers.

This is in response to numerous feedback from our readers that they were being banned from accessing our website, especially after they have upgraded their iPads to the latest recommended version (7.0.4).

There were also some readers experiencing the same problem when they access our website using StarHub, even when they weren’t using iPads.

We wish to assure our readers that our website was not compromised nor was there any indication of “cross-site scripting” issues, certainly not due to Google’s search script.

Preliminary checks seem to suggest that it is not provider related, but due to our generic firewall detecting connections from these readers as being accompanied by vulnerability scanners.

* A vulnerability scanner is a computer program designed to assess computers, computer systems, networks or applications for weaknesses.

Since this is a security issue, it is therefore necessary that we run a full system check and access test from these upgraded ipads, tweaking our current firewall rulesets, if necessary.

As this will be a coordinated system check between a third party security consultant (definitely not from a $2 company) and our in-house techie, we are unable to confirm just how much time is needed. However, things should be back to normal within 24 hours.

Based on our security consultant’s recommendations, all unused ports on our servers will be shut down during the process, but our email server will be fully functional.

In the meantime, please access our website from a PC instead of the new upgraded iPads if possible, and visit our FaceBook during the maintenance period.

We thank you for your understanding and support.
