THE driver of a van took his foot off the brake pedal, hoping that the space under the van would be enough for it to pass safely over an injured motorcyclist lying on the road before him.
Phoon Hoe Chiew judged wrong and his van slammed into the man, dragging him for nearly 30m.
The 61-year-old van driver was today jailed for five months for driving rashly and causing the death of Mr Tan Liang Pheng, 67, a baker. Phoon was also disqualified from driving for eight years.
The district court had heard in a earlier hearing that the motorcyclist had skidded and fallen along Defu Road around 6am on June 9 last year.
