They probably believed in their propaganda, that it was merely "damaged" nothing serious. That's what they wanted the world (and Putin) to believe. They are a self deluded bunch of vodka chugging, potato munching, civilian murdering thugs.
Even heaven cannot accept what that fucker Bloodymir Putin is doing and hence created a storm whilst the vessel was being towed to the port. And before anything else, the huge storm consumed and eventually sank the 12,90-ton warship. Heaven really have eyes.
