So far they have not produced a realistic movie of the Vietnam war. Only got crap like platoon and We were Patriots.... Green Berets was worse than crap.... Apocalypse Now was too surreal...
Needs a British director to come out with something better.
The killing fields was good - but it was based on Cambodia and not Vietnam :(

the Vietnam war movies of the 1980s and 90s all had some depressing anti-war or liberal contents in it. that is in accordance with the general US public opinion on the war. so they had movies like Platoon, Casualties of War, etc.

recommend the "The Siege of Firebase Gloria (1989)", it's a simple, no fuss, extremely high body counts, pretty absorbing movie.

This one is not too bad,,,abit 'nationalistic' but when this battle was fought, it was the beginning of the war,,when the war 1st started there was tremendous support..but as the war dragged on,,,public opinion turned,,but the politicians were to dumb to see it,,

I went to see the Longest Day at the Odeon even after I had seen it thrice...
Could not get enough of it as a schoolboy . Looking back it was quite unrealistic

according to the Soviet Union declassified records, they spent hundred millions of dollars sponsoring the USA anti-war groups and organizations to turn the USA public opinion against the war. that's how stupid the USA public were then.

this movie not bad. action: 9/10. Vietnam war movies usually show small firefights at company or platoon levels only, it's quite dull. this movie's battle is on a regiment/battalion scale, it's more exciting on the big screen.

First ever war movie I watched at the old Capitol was Platoon.. My elder brother brought me to watch it with his friends.. I became a war movie buff because of that...

Thin Red Line is my all time favorite... Full Metal Jacket, Saving Private Ryan, Jarhead...

To End All Wars even though underated was another brilliant movie depicting the Allied POWs at the hands of their Japs captors.. Watched it at Lido and I remembered seeing an elderly man silently shedding tears at the end of the movie.. Letters from Iwo Jima was the first movie I brought my GF then wife to see at Marina Square... Brad Pitt's Fury... The American Sniper was quite good...

This wasn't a movie but a brilliant double episode of Combat called 'The Hills are for Heroes'.

This balances the anti-war message with the need to do one's duty very well, I think.
