While in Jakarta, there are two main taxi companies in competition. One is all painted Blue called Blue Bird, the other is all painted Super White called Express. They are supposed to be the better governed ones with Blue Bird being owned by the wife of the Police Chief.

However, taxi drivers from both companies just like any other places, always try to cheat if they can. Thus I have learned something here.

It has nothing to do with being gracious or not. Nothing to do with brand loyalty or not. We just want good, honest and affordable service. Most of the time the taxi will try to cheat you, bring you round the city on longer route, even when it is already all jammed up. Regardless of whether you are gracious or not, you will kena cheat. Both Blue Bird and Super White taxis have similar problem but Blue Bird charges higher starting fare.

Anyway, the moral of the story, don't just trust branding but must be discerning and always do your homework, know your routes, area map and direction. When the drivers try to cheat or be funny, "slap"them hard! Question them, keep them in check and thus they will be kept honest. Don't take honesty for granted.

Goh Meng Seng is talking cock. It is obvious that he is a newbie to Jakarta and trying to impress.
Your local business associates will tell you that other than these two brands, DON'T even try to take the other "non-branded" taxis.
Taxi drivers in Jakarta have no interest in bringing their customers on a longer ride - just sitting in the jam will make them more than happy.
It is a way of life, a matter of fact in Jakarta. And they are used to happily sitting it out.

Yeah,,only take the taxis from these 2 companies,,,,,GMS should only talk about nothing since he is nothing but shit,,why u think he is called Got More Shit??

I live in Jakarta every now and then, never have a problem with Blue Bird, the best. Also never heard from any of my acquaintances any complain about Blue Bird, highly recommended by them.

Blue birds are not universally available in Jakarta. Some malls have an understanding with the "other" taxi companies & don't allow Blue Bird taxis to pick up passengers.

I heard that fuel prices have gone up because the gov't removed the fuel subsidies in Indonesia. Have the taxi companies increased their fares yet:confused:
