SINGAPORE: A businessman suffered severe injuries in a fight that broke out on Lavender Street last Saturday at about 2am.

He sustained eight stab wounds, including one on his abdomen that required 37 stapled stitches.

His three other friends suffered head injuries, hairline crack on a foot and a broken chin.

The victim, who wants to be known as Mr Chua only, told Channel NewsAsia that his friend was accused of throwing glasses at another group.

They were then asked by the bouncers to leave the pub to avoid creating a scene.

Mr Chua and five friends were attending a birthday party at the pub.

His friend, Mr Phang, said over 10 men, including the bouncers, came at them with choppers and knives.

He said: "The bouncer pushed us out of the pub, then when we were downstairs. Suddenly a fight broke out. Even the bouncer also joined the fight. I was beaten up by the bouncer too. My friend was also badly injured by a group of at least 5 to 6 guys holding knives or choppers."

Mr Chua said: "(They then started to attack us), about 10 over people. (After that) one of the people just grabbed my head, then I started getting beaten up on the back.

No news on arrests made, if any? Should be quite a straightforward case with CCTVs all over the place. Ground intel will establish the ID of those involved.

An area of vibrant night-life, good food, Mustafa, banglas, and colourful excitement ..... and not forgetting a well-known clinic for STDs

Given the number of these outlets in the Jalan Besar area, sure to have such incidents taking place every now and then. Bouncers play an important role here. They are there, paid to suppress such incidents from escalating.

Going to avoid Lavender for time being. Got bad vibes about the place!!

Many years ago, I was having supper with a friend when I realised a new disco at Eminent, ground level. From my observation of the crowd and bouncers, I told my friend a major incident would take place within 2 weeks. Knna, within a week, big fight liao. One of the chaps involved is now under CLTP Act. SLK chap.

The number of missing persons in Malaysia, if reported accurately, is even more alarming. I am not referring to those who voluntarily left home. I am referring to those abducted and never seen again. Could have been buried in cement!

Yeah been there last month. Girls from Taiwan...so so only. Was irritated by the flower girl that keep pestering us to buy!!

Haven't been there for a long, long time. Used to in the late 90s. Yup, Taiwanese singers are in town coz easier to hire them as singers compared to PRCs. But Taiwan char bors are paid 2k a month excluding flowers. From what I know, lots of problems when PRC and Taiwan char bors make a living together.

Wrt flower girl pestering, next time just tell them when you need them you will call for them. No need for them to pester. That's what I do at HFJs. Those waitresses who know me never ask. They just stand nearby or keh keh top-up your drinks when singer with you is on stage.

HC? Recall there was one on the 3rd level? If not wrong, was forced to close by licensing. Caught too many times with 'room activities.'

Oliver was on 3rd level. I won't be surprised if they are closed by now.

Not sure if any new operator came to take over. Was at least 4-5 years ago that I was told HC there had to close. Not sure if it was Oliver. Up the escalator, on the left?

I think so. Like I said, I won't be surprised if they are closed by now. Very obvious they are a "special" place, haha.

I started chionging HC in the late 70s till maybe 2002. Never been to Oliver. These are the HC I visited in the past. Some can't recall name of HC but location no problem. Let me try - Specialist Centre, Hotel Grand Central, Meriden Hotel (near Istana), Far East Plaza, Parkview hotel (near Cuppage) Tanglin Shopping Centre, Novotel Orchid (Dunearn), ANA hotel, Jurong Bird Park, Bt Timah Plaza or shopping centre, Upp Serangoon shopping centre, Glass hotel, Royal at Queens,
Bugis, Hotel Royal, Orchard Boulevard, Marina, Leisure Drome, Orchard Plaza, Pissa at Cuppage Plaza, Youth, Plaza hotel, Miramar, Riverview ................
