Synrgic, a home-grown startup has launched its first ever smartphone - the Synrgic Uno, a mid-end smartphone that was designed and developed in Synrgic's Singapore R&D center.

Targeted at young professionals in emerging markets in Asia, Synrgic has selected a set of components that allow for "delivering quality features with surprising value". Here's a quick look at the Synrgic Uno's specifications and notable features.

Home-grown Synrgic launches its first ever smartphone

FrontBack-Mainscreen.png.jpeg

Synrgic has, instead of the usual Qualcomm or Nvidia, equipped the Uno with a dual-core 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4470 CPU, possibly making it the last smartphone to feature a OMAP processor (TI has moved OMAP 5's focus to automotive equipment). Apart from that, the usual 1GB (dual channel LPDDR2) RAM and a SGX544 GPU keeps the phone speedy for regular use.

Connectivity-wise, the phone is equipped with Quad Band 3G(HSPA), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi hotspot capability, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, GPS, NFC and FM Radio. Apart from the omission of GLONASS support, the Uno has most of the usual mid-end connectivity specifications.

Synrgic_Microsite_Gorilla_glass.jpg

On the AV related side, a relatively large sized 4.7" 720p (312ppi) S-IPS LCD, with an oleophobic coated Gorilla Glass is included. Careless users may want to take note that the Gorilla Glass included is not the newer Gorilla Glass 2 or 3 and while being relatively tough, may be more prone to damage than screens on HTC or Samsung's smartphones.

Other notable features include a 8mp rear camera with LED flash and 1080p Full-HD video recording capability, a 2mp front camera and dual microphones with noise cancelling functionality. A much larger than usual 2300mAh removable battery powers the phone and Synrgic claims that it is capable of up to 12 hours of talktime on 3G, useful for those who don't have access to a charger while on the go. A microSD slot that supports up to 32GB microSD cards also allow for users who need more than the 16GB onboard storage a choice of expanding the storage size.

Vanilla Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich is currently included, which may be appealing to users who are looking for a bloatware free experience of Android. A upcoming update in Q2 this year would also bring the phone up to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, where it hopefully can also benefit from Project Butter to smoothen out the user experience further.

Perhaps one of the best warranty services around, Synrgic provides a warranty service dubbed "Synrgic Exchange" where customers can exchange their unit for a new one if it is found to be defective during the one year warranty instead of being out of a phone for the repair process. This is certainly appealing for the heavy users who can't do without their smartphones for any period of time.

The Synrgic Uno will first be available at Synrgic’s international online store (www.synrgic.com) at US$320 (approximately SG$400) tax exclusive and will roll out in phases over the next quarter, possibly to Synrgic’s key Asian markets (Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and China). Contract-subsidized pricing is still unavailable.

Looks like a combination copy cat of "HTC + LG + Sony Ericson".
This company sure won't last long enough to recoup their R&D costs.

Let's go thru the phone's specs.

Look at the part i highlighted in red. What does this mean? It means it's the last smartphone to feature OLD tech. That's right OLD tech. Imagine a new brand of phones/pcs or whatever electronic goods appears on the market and they are equipped with outdated tech. Commonsense question would you buy it?

Connectivity-wise, the phone is equipped with Quad Band 3G(HSPA), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi hotspot capability, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, GPS, NFC and FM Radio. Apart from the omission of GLONASS support, the Uno has most of the usual mid-end connectivity specifications.

Look at this here. 4G is the latest range in smart phones but due to limitations of only up to 2GB despite the increased speeds 2GB is really a big limitation which means most people would still prefer to stick with 3.5G aka HSDPA. All the specs listed here are common. Normal. Nothing that stands out. BTw it lacks the GLONASS support and look at how the article refers to it that it has most of usual mid end connectivity specifications. Yup a new brand on the market does what most mid end phones of other more established brands like samsung or apple does wow that's going to make it stand out.

Another reason not to get this phone. Unknown brand enters the market. Has specs that don't keep up with established brands like while others have the more advanced gorilla glass 2 or 3 as mentioned this phone doesn't so it's more damage prone. Isn't this fucking stupid? Who would even want to get this phone?

Other notable features include a 8mp rear camera with LED flash and 1080p Full-HD video recording capability, a 2mp front camera and dual microphones with noise cancelling functionality. A much larger than usual 2300mAh removable battery powers the phone and Synrgic claims that it is capable of up to 12 hours of talktime on 3G, useful for those who don't have access to a charger while on the go. All of this is typical the battery powern at 2300mAh looks pretty huge and i think phones like the galaxy note 3rd party batteries can hold up to 2100mAh isn't special after all it's just an extra 200 mAh most ppl would bring along extra batteries.

Perhaps one of the best warranty services around, Synrgic provides a warranty service dubbed "Synrgic Exchange" where customers can exchange their unit for a new one if it is found to be defective during the one year warranty instead of being out of a phone for the repair process. Now let's fucking hope their back up service actually saves all the sms, notes, browser settings, picture settings, etc of the phone when you actually exchange it for a new phone and restore it. The last thing you want is to somehow be unable to restore all your sms, phone logs etc unto the new phone cos the back up service isn't that good and you're fucked cos let's be honest about it. Smart phones can be like a toy but they are also a vital tool and you don't want them to fuck up the phone's most basic of functions.

New phone on the market and it costs as much as the phones from more established brands. Care to explain why someone would choose this phone at that price over a phone from say samsung?

The only good thing about using such a phone is if you work or live a lifestyle where your phone is at risk of being damaged or disfugured like say at construction areas where you can afford to dirty your phone or rough house around with it cos let's be honest this phone isn't going to appeal to the chique crowd. Some phone brands are used to show off coolness and are part of a person's wardrobe accessories used to be apple it's increasingly becoming samsung so the marketers of this phone need to be realistic. Please your phone brand isn't apple of samsung so it isn't cool so this phone will be used by ppl who don't really need nice cool looking phones but those that just require a communications device that they wouldn't care too much if it got damaged hence construtction site workers or ppl involved in extreme sports or poorer ppl or ppl that don't care about style should be the markets they are looking for.

what R&D, there isn't any R&D in the first place... if putting pieces together design and spec from various places is R&D in sinkie context.

and they are going to target:
Targeted at young professionals in emerging markets in Asia,

if they are considered professional, i dun think they are stupid enough to get a phone that is that backward.

Maybe this is the chance for the PAP-ball lickers like those RC members a chance to carry balls and buy it in hundreds to give support to home-grown... and then collect NTUC vouchers after that.

and again what sort of market they cater to ...army..so they can sell it without much marketing cost and sheltered from the govt..

That is such low class business tactic. Move them to another country, see how they flare.
